Vicenza or Palladioville?
Everything here is Palladio, as most of the great buildings here were designed by him. Hey, what can I say, the guy had style. Standing on Mount Berico and taking in the beautiful view of Vicenza at night.

I will be visiting Venice with 3 companions and we would like to take a day trip to Vicenza to see the Palladio's works. There are guided tours you can take from Venice, but they are all very expensive, so we would like to travel by train and get a guided tour of the city and some of the Villas (Villa Rotunda in particular.)
Does anyone know of a local tour company or guide in Vicenza I can contact to set up a day tour? Is it easy to get a taxi at the train station to take you out to the villas? Thanks!
You won't get 4 of you plus a guide in a taxi so you will probably want a guide who will also drive you to the different sites. Try http://www.vicenzaguide.it/homeng.html
If you want to visit the Rotunda make sure you plan you day of visit on a Wedensday. Even if it is the 500th annual of Palladio the Villa is only opening on Wedensday. You can get to the Rotunda by city bus as well as several other sites, or consider doing a tour by bicycle. www.bikevenice.com
You should take the train and arrange a guide from Vicenza. There is an local Info center that offers tours of the area, or you could look into a private guide.

A beautiful sight, whether from Mt. Berico, or right down in Piazza Signori. This is one of the key Vicenza landmarks. You can't miss it. When arriving here i drove around town on the first day, and was impressed by the small town charm Vicenza has. Although it isn't really a small town, compared to Naples, where I also lived for a while, it is tiny. Vicenza, and all of the Veneto, is home to many wealthy people, and is one of the wealthiest regions in Italy.
The statue of great architecture Andrea Palladio, 1508-1580, is situated in the western part of Piazza dei Signori.
BTW, behind the statue there is an cafe-bar which offers the best coffee in Vicenza. Andrea Palladio's works so enriched the area, giving a new look to the town and a new direction in architecture to the rest of Europe and the whole world.
This fest occurs in late October at the end of the harvest. Those chestnuts are just wonderful, hot and fragrant. You will see a pic of the castagna cracker. It is used to keep the chestnuts from exploding in the fire.
The Gothic church on the western side of the complex (see right on the picture) was built in 1428 with the trong support of the local population, convinced they would be miraculously freed of the plague which raged almost a quarter of a century.
The present facade is not the original, an extensive renovation in 1860 has given its appearance a heavier aspect.
This is western side of the Sanctuary with a small 15th century Gothic styled church.
