Giardino Salvi and Loggia Valmarana.
by Maurizioago
This beautiful garden was opened to the public in 1522 and then closed for two centuries. In 1909 was opened again.
There are several beautiful statues and two loggias there. One of these is the so called Loggia Valmarana. It was probably built at the end of the XVI century by a scholar of Palladio.
The Seriola river runs through this garden
On the Contra Porti
by iandsmith
Outside Palladio, inside, the collaboration of Alessandro Vittoria and Bernardino India is found at work in the Sala di Psiche. It is not by chance that Marcantonio Thiene, a follower of the culture of his time, chose to have the Eros and Psyche story represented in a room in his own palace.
The Eros and Psyche cycle in Palazzo Thiene is based on a tale from Apuleius "The Golden Ass" and depicts episodes from the story of the beautiful Psyche who had to overcome a series of trials before being able to join Eros and thus gain admission to Olympus after achieving immortality.
Bernardino India depicts the celestial marriage of Psyche and Eros at the centre of the ceiling; Alessandro Vittoria is credited with four winged Victories in the lunettes, modelled in the Mannerist style inspired by Parmigianino.
The relationship between Vittoria's extremely sober stucco decoration and India's frescoes, which take up most of the walls, is perfectly balanced and it took four years (1552-1556) to attain that harmony. The other thing you might be interested to know about this building is the "fake" front. While it appears to be of stone, in fact it is a lightweight cheap brick, rendered to appear as masonry.
Palazzo Braschi
by iandsmith
Palazzo Braschi-Brunello dates back to the second half of the 15th century, another pre-Palladio edifice. Though rebuilt after the bombardment of 1944, it had been through alterations to the second floor, especially the windows and the porch where the column supporting wall had been removed. This base was probably similar to that of Palazzo Regaù.
The "piano nobile" has trilobed windows; the four-arched window (on the right you can see the first of the arches) is adorned with medallions and putti which stand out even further with the background of rust red paint. It's on the Corso Palladio, 67
Palazzo Bonin - Longare
by croisbeauty
The majestic Palazzo Bonin - Longare is located on the corner of Piazza Castello and Corso Palladio. Whilst the building bears certain hellmarks of the Palladian style the outline of the facade and the siting of the half columns do not indicate the hand of the maestro himself. The hall and the piano nobile, conected to the lodge are of better design.
Today it houses The Association of the Local Industrials.
Chiesa dei Servi
by croisbeauty
Chiesa dei Servi is situated in Contra Gazzolle, right opposite to the Regional Prefettura and a foot from Piazza dei Signori. This little but beautiful church is almost invisibile and could be neglected among all important historical sights in its close surroundings.
