Access to Army Garrison at Vicenza

by FMoralesWettstein

I am a U.S. Air Force reservist and will be on personal travel in Vicenza later this month. Does anybody know if I can enter the US facility at Vicenza with my Air Force ID? Or, is access limited to those soldiers/airmen stationed there?

Thanks,

Frank

Why don't you ask them? This seem an unofficial site of the community, but they can point you in the right direction, i guess.

You'll get in Caserma Ederle (the main US Army facility in Vicenza) fine with your Air Force ID.. are you in the IACS system?

Thanks. I am not in the IACS (as far as I know..unless there is an interface with some of the other access systems) as I've not been assigned to USAFE or USAREUR in a very long time.

Take care,

Frank

Travel Tips for Vicenza

Ponte San Michelle

by iandsmith

This stone bridge, devoid of vehicular traffic, presents an elegant profile over the Retrone River. It dates back to 1620.
I deliberately aimed for this viewpoint, my research indicating this would be one of the best portals of entry into the town though I also went and walked on the San Michelle bridge itself.

Torre di Piazza

by croisbeauty

Sorry if I am insisting to show you the bell-tower from different perspectives, it is so fascinating and it deserves so many attention. At the bottom of Torre di Piazza in a large niche flanked by two columns is a stone carving of the Madonna on the throne, with Saint Vincent and Saint Stephen from 1596.
A passageway under the Basilica leads to the courtyard of Palazzo Podestarile.

Multi-coloured lining

by iandsmith

The saying goes that "Every cloud has a silver lining" and the destruction wrought on the duomo during the war at least had one benefit that was clearly visible to me. I enjoy stained glass, love the intensity of the colours and so it was that I couldn't help but notice the brightness of the windows in the duomo.
The new fresh look compared to other similar establishments indicated that these were some of the items that may have benefited from rebuilding.

Palazzo Angaran

by croisbeauty

Palazzo Magre Angaran is situated in Contrada of Santa Lucia. The building has arches running round it and the facade facing Contrada Santa Lucia has a beautiful quadrifora window.
Conctant flooding of the Bacchiglione river caused the steady sinking of the main door which was demolished and rebuilt at the new street level in the 1930's.
The palace is situated in Contra' Porta S. Lucia, right behind the Teatro Olimpico.

Monte Berico

by croisbeauty

The legend says Virgin appeared to announce that Vicenza would be spared during a plaque in first half of the 15th century.
Three wide symmetrical staircases lead up to the church which, majestic in its huge size and nunerous statues, lifts high over its three facades, like a crown, an airy dome which gives a distinct gracefulness to the building as a whole.
