Quick but refreshing break

by TripAdvisor Member skyjockey99

My partner arrange for a two day birthday break for me and flying from Coventry, UK with ThomsonFly at 07.30 and back the next day at 20.00 gave us two full days away. The hotel? 5 minutes from the airport, great location, loved the sea view and hearing the sea, refurbished room was good if small. Good bed, good plasma TV (but extra - internet, cable, messaging etc didn't seem set up). Pool and small gym very good, spa good, food average, service generally good. Would we go back? Yes, provided the price was right. It seems one of the better locations/hotels on Jersey, but I'd not feel it good value at over £100 B&B.

Location Location Location!

We've just come back from a few days in sunny Jersey, yes, sunny - and had the good fortune to stay at the L'Horizon Hotel.

The hotel is a short hop, skip and a jump from the airport but the amazing thing is that even though it's so close, you rarely hear the planes, let alone see them!

The main thing about the hotel is its location. It's literally right by the beach and the sea-view rooms are absolutely amazing. Yes, they cost a bit more but believe me, they really are worth forking out for. Massive double bed, well-equipped bathroom, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, plasma screen (takes a bit of getting used to the remote control though!) and lovely balcony where we sat with a glass of wine and watched the tide roll in and out. The only thing we weren't keen on about the room was the overuse of the colour brown: not exactly the perfect seaside colours but still very modern, trendy and elegant. Personally I prefer paler colours to reflect the outdoors but it's hardly worth complaining about.

The public areas of the hotel are great - loads of places to sit including a fab terrace overlooking the sea where you can have snacks or full meal. The spa area is great - large indoor pool, gym, jacuzzi, steam bath, sauna, large changing rooms and excellent Thalgo treatments: we had a couple of treatments and they were expertly carried out.

Car parking again is a cinch - either in the car park directly by the hotel or across the small road.

Pros: location, cleanliness, decor, efficiency, breakfast in bed!
Cons: we never saw the manager, does he/she exist?! We popped into the Atlantic to have a look around and although we preferred the location of l'Horizon, we were instantly greeted by the Atlantic's very pleasant manager and shown around. Also the Atlantic's staff were very welcoming. The staff at L'Horizon are very efficient BUT can they please learn how to smile! We're not into that over-bearing insincere "Hi, how you doing?!" stuff but an occasional smile works wonders. Perhaps this is a reflection of the management?

Good places to visit:
The Wayside Cafe, St Brelades Bay - turn left out of the hotel and walk along the seafront - it's practically next door: wonderful food, very busy so the occasional queue, you can sit indoors or out on the terrace overlooking the beach.
Beauport Bay - small beach around the corner. very quiet but gorgeous. don't tell anyone about it!
Rosel Harbour - the Hungry Man, small cabin/cafe - take away food and brilliant crab sandwiches. very picturesque overlooking the harbour
St Ouen's Bay - massive beach with rollercoaster waves, great place to watch the surfers
Jersey War Tunnels - very interesting, perfect place to learn about history of Jersey during WWII

But don't bother with The Living Legend unless you've got kids. We loathed it, very tacky, awful shops, not a bad film about the history of Jersey, mini golf, track racing - i'm sure kids would love it but we weren't impressed.

Perfect for a short break

by TripAdvisor Member SunnySurreyTraveller

We have just returned from a 3 night long weekend break at L'Horizon - it was totally relaxing in one of the seaview rooms with a great balcony where we sipped champagne and watched the sea come in and out. All aspects of the hotel were excellent, you cannot beat the location and since my previous visit a couple of years back the refurbishment has made a big difference. The pool and sauna/steam are as good if not better than you would find anywhere else. We did not have an evening meal in the hotel, given the close proximity of some other great local restaurants in St. Brelades and St. Aubins. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I returned home completely relaxed. One tip to get a good rate is to check out the many internet offers and then call the hotel direct to see if they can better it.

Outstanding Quality - Competitive Price!

by A TripAdvisor Member

The L'Horizon Hotel, situated less than 3 metres from the beach (literally) is a hotel of outstanding quality and superior standards.

I stayed for just one night and simply felt I had to go back!!!

The room was gorgeous with a very comfy bed - stunning balcony with lovely chairs and a table. There were complimentary drinks - a well stocked mini-bar, pristine bathroom and wonderful decor. Not to mention the gorgeous television!

The staff were extremely helpful and polite and 24 hour room service was available.

I also ate in the Gril Room and swam in the pool; both of which exceeded expectations. The Spa facilities were of outstanding quality.

Overall, the hotel is stunning! An extremley enjoyable stay at competitive pricing and uncompromisable quality!

I love it!!!

Excellent hotel - surprisingly child friendly

by TripAdvisor Member Luggs

Excellent hotel - food, service and rooms were outstanding. Visited with an 18 month old and found the hotel to be surprisingly child friendly despite being high end. Lovely children's food and ate on the terrace as well as the Brasserie. Other restaurants more formal if you wanted to avoid children! Situated directly on a beautiful beach and will definitely return.

Wow wow wow

i stayed as part of a legal confernce in May, and we took over the Hotel.

We had the main conference room that literally breaks out onto the beach, so we were never far from a great view and some fresh air....we had lunch out on the terrace and were thoroughly spoilt from everyone who worked there.

The conference was one of the best ive been to for for a few reasons..

1 the view!
2 the sea being everywhere u can see
3 the staff, the conference rooms and the service
4 the food! Seafood buffets, BBQ, jersey potatoes
5 the bedrooms
6 the designer style of the hotel

plus i was back in london an hour after leaving the hotel, which was a bit of a shame haha.

the bedrooms were AWEsome! huge huge 42 inch tv´s, people who bring you champagne cocktails to your bath, really design led feel and balcony with table and chairs over looking the lovely bay.

it was a shame we had to do work, so im going back in 2 weeks for a holiday!!

Wonderful and relaxing

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband took me here to recuperate from health problems and it was the perfect place to go for this. Wonderfully for us, our room wasn't ready when we arrived so they gave us a free upgrade to a better room - one with a balcony and view onto the beach. It was absolutely beautiful and I could have stayed on and on! (we were actually there for 4 nights) Huge bed, great bathroom, plasma screen TV (to watch the World Cup on!) etc, but the balcony, the view and the sound of the sea at night were the greatest pleasures for me. Swimming in the pool and steaming were nice too, although with fabulous weather we mostly wanted to just get outside.
I really loved the atmosphere of the hotel - the barbecue on the terrace, etc; it felt like it was very well run and conscious, but laid back enough too. So anyway, highly recommended!
Re: Jersey, one pretty easy walk we loved was from Grosnez castle to Plemont beach. The views were great and I thought the beach was gorgeous with it's huge rocks, caves and rockpools.

excellent food

by TripAdvisor Member robinkr

Just returned from a relaxing week at the L'Horizon in Jersey.Hotel has obviosusly had a great deal of money spent on it recently, and to good effect.
The food was excellent throughout the stay, although the service was often slow.
The rooms overlooking the beach are superb in terms of comfort and decor. The two single beds though would be better as three quarter size to add that extra luxury.
The Reception is well run and available at all times to sort out any concerns or queries......nothing is too much trouble.
A word of warning.....whilst we were there three weddings took place over three days.....therefore the main restaurant was not available on an evening. The other smaller eating areas could still be used, but this did cause very slow service.
For a special and relaxing holiday I would certainly recommend this hotel. We shall return.

A delightful surprise. Exceptional food

by TripAdvisor Member Britleo

Food was of outstanding quality in all of the restaurants and a main feature of the hotel.
Book the sea view rooms with balcony, and watch the magnificent sunset and tidal changes. The hotel is on the beach line.
To walk off the excesses of such delightful food, that sucks you in to over eat, I commend a walk past the Church on the sea front, and up onto the cliff top into the adjoining bay. Such tranquility out of season.
The male receptionist was efficient, but not very welcoming and I did wonder what type of hotel the stay was goig to be, but all of the other staff were so warm, helpful and politely humorous in the nicest of ways. But that food was just mesmerisingly good.

Location Superb

by TripAdvisor Member ragpop

We stayed here in October, the hotel location and facilities were very good. However the night we arrived a gourmet dinner was occurring, it would have been nice to have been informed of this when we placed our booking. Anyway as such we couldnt eat in the grill room so had to eat in the other restaurant instead. Super Service and one of the best meals I have ever eaten - and for the bargain price of £15!! I only wish that the meal we ate the following night in the Grill Room was half as good, but it was a complete dissapointment, even more so because it was to celebrate our anniversary. I am not sure if the Chef had actually tasted it or it was just an idea he had come up with, the flavours certainly didnt complement each other, portions were exceedingly small and the service left a lot to be desired. Because we didnt wish to order another bottle of wine, we were left to finish our meals without any drinks whatsoever. We will visit the hotel again, but will certainly give the Grill Room a wide berth!!!
