More about Legacy Hampshire Hotel
10 out of 10
A last minute decision to visit Jersey, read excellent reviews online recommending the Premier Plus rooms. Worth paying a little extra if you can afford it as felt like pure luxury, very modern and clean. Friendly staff, excellent food with evening entertainment on 2 nights of our stay. Good location, a short walk into town. Suggest if staying on Jersey to hire a car, parking is available at the hotel. Would recommend this to friends and family. One of the best holidays we've had, thanks to all the staff and team.
Tiny and noisy rooms
Whilst the lounge was good and the dining room comfortable the room was tiny and noisy. The walls were like paper and a stag party woke us up at 4am. The "bathroom" was a disgrace, and one of the worst I've ever seen (including some backpacker venues). To add insult to injury on top of the room fee there was an additional charge to use the safety deposit facility at reception!
The nicest hotel ever!!!
After deciding to go away for a quick weekend with my boyfriend we found that at short notice, many hotels were full.
Then we came across this hotel. It seemed ok and claimed to be close to the town, which was all that was important.
On arrival, the hotel looked amazing. The view from the outside look exotic and new. Then we saw the reception. It was really nice and smart. We were given our key almost straight away and the staff we so nice and friendly, advicing us on what to go and see while on the island.
Our room was a premier, which was not too much more expensive. The room was huge, the bed was amazing and the decor was so fresh and new.
The restaurant and bar were lovely and again, the staff were great. We even went swimming in the outside pool!!
It was also very close to the town. I would definately stay here again and would say that if you are not sure where to stay, STAY HERE! Really good value for money and perfect for everything that you could ever need.
Lovely central Hotel
Stayed at The Hampshire Hotel for 3 nights in October. Couldn't have asked for more, the staff were delightful , the Premier Plus (family) room was HUGE, the breakfast / buffet was great. All this and walking distance to local restaurants and shops.
We would definately stay again.
Only downside was that even though it was (unseasonally) warm enough to swim in the pool it was closed for 'winter', would have liked a lunchtime dip!!
We enjoyed our 3 day break at this hotel very much. All the reviews were a great help as we had not stayed here before. We were emailed the directions and found them easily. We had a premier plus room , the only thing wrong was that one of the windows did not have a handle! We were offered another room but it was not worth moving tor the short time we were there. All of our meals were very good , we had the tennerfest menue (now finished) for 2 of the nights. The breakfast was excellant. The walk to town takes about 15mins. We have stayed in Jersey quite a lot but had not been back for 3 years. we had our honeymoon there in 1969.It is very nice for a short break but I don't think I would like to be on the Island in the height of Summer ! The Manager and Staff were all very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Apparently all of the rooms have now been re-furbished.
The Best Family Room in Jersey
We have visited Jersey 8 times in the last 10 years and this Hotel had the best family room ever. The Premier Plus room was huge and the little extras such as fresh fruit, bathrobes and free bottled water were useful. The children had a separate room and bathroom just off the main room.
Even though it was December and well out of season, the hotel staff could not do enough to make our stay better. The breakfast was excellent, the location very close to the town centre and all the facilities you would normally expect from a 4/5 star hotel.
As it was such a good hotel we have already booked to go back to the same room in the summer of 2008.
Hotel Good. Pity Never Saw Any of Jersey
Myself, my partner and our 11 month son stayed at the Hampshire after getting a really good deal as we wanted a pre-Christmas weekend away. Unfortunately our baby took ill on the flight and we ended up spending the weekend in A&E (who were fantastic may i say). The hotel reception staff were aware of our problem and were nothing short of fantastic. We had a Premier Plus room was spacious, very clean and the bed was very comfortable (what little we slept in it mind you being at the hospital).
The hotel was a little out of the centre but was walkable into town.
Breakfast was plentiful. There was a good cold selection then hot breakfast was to order.
We never got to see any of Jersey so we will go back and would stay at the Hampshire again.
Another great stay at the Hampshire
We stayed at the Hampshire Hotel most recently in December, while we were in Jersey see the Fete de Noue festival. We had a great time during the festival and another very nice stay at the hotel, having stayed on three other occasions in the previous year or so.
We've stayed in the Premier Plus room once, which was fantastic, and in Premier rooms on the other three occasions. The Premier rooms, for our needs, were equally as good. The price difference for the "plus" rooms is more than justified though, but we don't really need the extras, so when we return (and we shall) we'll probably go for a Premier room again.
The staff are extremely pleasant and welcoming (and recognised us from our previous stays, which made us feel at home !) and the bar, reception and restaurant are very well presented and decorated, and the whole hotel is spotlessly clean.
The breakfasts are very tasty and there's plenty of choice, but we haven't yet had the pleasure of taking evening meals in the hotel, due to Jerseys fantastic range or restaurants.
The only issue we've ever had is the car park. It's quite small and very tight to manouvre in, especially if people have parked inconsiderately or have large cars. Due to this we hire a smaller car than we'd normally like, as on the one occasion we hired a larger car, we scraped it on a protruding wall on the exit to the car park. From the marks on the wall it was clear that we weren't the first! Also, the car park could possibly be better lit, to help with this tricky parking at night.
This complaint is only a very minor niggle, as some would say you need a small car to get around Jersey anyway, and many other hotels we've looked at don't even offer car parking. A small car park is better than none, just don't hire a Mondeo or Jaguar from Hertz !
So overall, we're been very happy with our stays at the Hampshire, and would thoroughly recommend it.
Unhelpful staff with a couldn't care less attitude
I am very surprised to see this hotel so highly rated. I stayed her with two family members last August and whilst the hotel looks nice, was clear and reasonably comfortable I had a number of problems from just before I arrived to the moment I left - mostly with the staff here who were mostly unhelpful. I booked this hotel specifically as one of the party had special dietary requirements and was assured that these would be met but this was very hit and miss.
We were 3 adults in one room (premier plus) and the pull-out put-you-up bed would have been okay for a very young child but was uncomfortable and a little short for this average sized adult. The bathroom was clean and the addition of a DVD player was good.
My main problem, as mentioned was with the staff. We arrived on a very early flight and I contacted the hotel at about 9am to ascertain what time we could check in and whether our room could be ready any earlier - I was informed that this was possible and our room would be priortised and would be ready by 12noon - we arrived at about 12.30 (St Helier's one way system can be difficult to navigate for the first time visitor) the room was not ready - no apology was forthcoming (a shrug of the shoulders and that she did not know was about the extend of it!) we were told we could wait and eat lunch but it would be quick (in the end we waited over an hour), I wouldn't have minded if we had not been told we could arrive early. We ordered food but had to remind our waitress about drinks (there was only one couple in the bar area who had already eaten so it wasn't that they were busy). The other issues with staff arose at breakfast - on both mornings I had a cooked breakfast I asked for the full English brekafast without mushrooms, why take an order when you deliver the breakfast with the mushrooms on both times! The more concerning thing was that my Aunt who has various dietary needs (one things is having to have a gluten free diet) was served eggs on bread - when we sent it back it was obvious that the bread had been removed and I was again met with disinterest when I tried to politely explain that eating things that have touched bread could cause a very upset stomach. On one evening we left the hotel to go for an evening meal, it was quite early (about 6pm on a Sunday) and when I asked the best place to go for a general restaurant which would be open so early I was informed there would be lots open, we struggled to find just one - hardly good local knowledge. My final issue was when I tried to complain at the conclusion of my stay and was again met with disintrest and a 'so-what' mentality - I was not offered an opportunity to speak to a manager or anything actually! Definitely will chose more wisely if I returned to Jersey.
This hotel is excellent. It had so many facilities towels, laundry and ironing, tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, toiletries. It is decorated to a very high standard. The beds are so comfortable even in the standard rooms. The staff went out of their way to cater for our needs or queries. It is so clean. The food is excellent from breakfast to our evening meal. I have multi allergies and had no problems at all with the food, it was excellent.
Although this is a 3 star hotel, I had better service than in some 4 star hotels. It was a very pleasant surprise when we arrived. I do feel the hotels home website should be shouting we are quality and mentioning all the facilites. The bar lounge area and dining room is a lot larger than it looks in the website but it is so cosy with sofas and chairs. Very tastefully decorated through out. I have already recommended this hotel to all my friends and family.
