Great Hotel,Great Value.
The Merton Hotel continues to maintain very high standards at a very competitive price. The refurbished rooms are well maintained and the breakfast and evening meal are of the highest standards. Put all the above together and add the efficient and polite staff, when in Jersey why stay any where else?
would gladly return
a large, busy hotel but you didn't notice this except at breakfast when the belvedere was busy.
we ate at all three restaurants during our stay but the best value was the Belvedere which had to be prebooked (at least the morning that you wanted to eat) . The meal was a carvery and was eat all you can, well it was fantastic, something for everyones taste.
our room was light and airy and double glazed.
the swimming pool was great, with sauna and steam rooms as well as three hot tubs! opening at 7.30am we never found too many people in there.
the staff were polite and helpful with directions etc as the hotel is about a fifteen minute walk from the centre of st helier, but you can wander through a lovely park for part of the way.
we didn't sample any of the entertainment but there was at least one form every night and always posted on the notice board each day. There were lots of places you could get a drink during the day as well as tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
all in all a great week .
We stayed for 3 nights during the late May bank hol - Very friendly staff who always tried to be helpful - partcularly the waiting staff in the Belvedere restaurant - buffet style breakfast and dinner. The food was very good, plentiful and well presented. The room looked recently refurbished - modern, airy and clean though bed was bit lumpy.
The pool, indoor and outdoor was great but staff in attendance were minimal which meant often the flume was not open. However there was still enough for the children without the flume.
Only bit I would mention on the bad side is that there seemed minimal disabled access. There were lifts but they were small - also the hotel is on different levels and there are some steps without visible ramps.
Overall a very nice stay and we would stay there again
Brilliant pool facitlities
The pool was really good. Its set in pretty gardens just across from the hotel. There is both an indoor section and an outdoor. The outdoor was really warm. There was a steam room, sauna and whirlpools plus a really good slide (yes I did have a good, aged 35 going on 6!!).
The hotel buffet was really good too and the staff friendly. The room was quite big and very clean, there was a little noise from the road outside but not much. The buffet style breakfast is very good.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of Havre de Pas and is on a bus route into town (the word bus is printed on the road, there's a stop opposite the hairdressers at the bottom of the hill).
I would recommend it and if I go to Jersey again would stay at this hotel.
Must be Jersey's best kept secret
Visited this Hotel between 2/7/06 & 12/7/06 and had to write this review as soon as we got back. What a fantastic Hotel! Everything was First Class and the whole premises was spotlessly clean and stayed that way throughout our holiday. The staff were all very helpful, pleasant and obliging. The restaurant meals were outstanding value and the variety of food on offer was exceptional. The presentation of the food was excellent, well planned and prepared. In addition, the leisure facilities provided within the Hotel were a bonus and I would say, whether you were a family with young children, or a family like us, with more mature offspring, this is a Hotel that would surely cater for all your needs. We will definitely return (This was our first visit to Jersey and can't believe that we got such a Hotel providing such good value)
i stayed at the merton for two nights at the end of july it cost me £210 a night for a family room which i thought for a 3* hotel this was really expensive. I have family in jersey so i was staying with them but thought i would treat my children with a stay in the merton as weather in jersey can not always be guaranteed and with the indoor pool and slides it would be perfect. But only one day could they use the pool as someone had an accident in the pool, ithink the hotels words were bodily fluids,i will leave it to your imagination.Restaurents were good but expensive save the vouchers upon check in for the buffet restuarant as these give you 10% off your meal.Overal the hotel could do with a refurb and the lifts are shabby and seem like they have been there for the past 40 years or so.Entertainment most nights, we had a abba tribute band one night and a band of old hasbeens the second night singing songs i could remember my nan singing to,on a whole i dont think either of these acts would look out of place at butlins which my sound harsh but its not what you expect for £420 for 2 nights.I love jersey its my second home im 33 and have been going since i was six months old but the authorites on the island really have to do something about these prices and standard of accomodation, the amount of locals i spoke to that said the summers are getting worse and worse for tourism because of the expense. My wife 2 children and i have been lucky to go to some fantastic countries on holiday and stayed in some wonderful 5* hotels and i dont think i have ever paid that amount of money for a family room.
We were looking forward to a nice relaxing holiday.
Food was good, bit pricey. Bedroom and bathroom was excellent!
Entertainment was very good - something different on every night.
Service was very poor at Reception - not very helpful.
It was too far to walk into town, no bus service.
I would not return to this particular hotel again.
Great Hotel, Loved it!
Just returned from 6 nights stay at the Merton (13th Aug - 19th).
My wife, mother -in-law, (she's not that bad) and my 10 year old son. The plan was just to chill for a few days in a nice clean and friendly hotel. We are in our late 40's and tend to be a bit fussy, however, I can recommend the hotel 100% please go with confidence and enjoy. Parking = right hand side of Hotel. make sure you ask them to fax you directions, it was very easy with them but I would not have liked to try and find the hotel without them!
Belvedere restaurant = great for choice and quality.
jersey joe's 50's style burger bar is great when you just fancy a massive cheese burger!
Suggest half board terms - we did, great value.
Any negatives? No. We will be visiting again.
Dave, jane, Luke. (and the mother-in-law)
Very impressed with the Merton a good family hotel that we found of excellent value. The swimming pool is just across the road less than 2 minutes walk from the reception and kept us all happy for several afternoons. The pool even supplies towels (£3 deposit which you get back when you return the towels)
We have stayed in several hotels over the years and my expectations get higher as the years go bye, I would recommend this hotel to anybody. We walked into St Helier everyday through the Howard Davis park took about 10 mins the park is very well kept and worth a look also. To be honest we have no negative remarks to make, the family suite we had was excellent.
