More about Pomme d'Or Hotel
Pomme Dor - great breakfast!
Fabulously placed in the heart of the town, all shops, restaurants and the harbour are minutes away. The hotel itself, restaurants and public rooms are very plush. The main restaurant has picture windows framing the harbour and the lovely view sets you up for the breakfast feast; quite the best I have ever had! This restaurant also houses the Carvery and is worth a visit but beware - they say that it closes at 9 and, even though we were only seated at 8.50, the help yourself buffet was cleared away on the dot. This meant that the 'eat all you want' label did not really apply. The bistro food was delicious. The Pomme restaurant food similar, if a little pretentious in terms of menu, staff attitude and delivery.
Our room was on the small side but had all we needed. The view though of derelict sheds and shops' yards left a lot to be desired at the price we paid. On requesting a room with a better view we were told this was impossible unless we paid an extra £30 per night. This seemed a lot, again bearing in mind the cost was already considerable and we didn't intend to spend much time in the room.
No parking at the hotel as it's so central. Worth a visit for the breakfast!
First class all round
During January and February I have stayed at the Pomme for 4 separate visits, taking advantage of the 3nights for the price of 2 package. I had a different room each time all above expectations apart from the very 1st night which was in a room at the back of the hotel where there is a night club in the street opposite. The noise was constant til the early hours, next morning a mention to the reception staff and we were moved immediately. Recommend ask for a quiet room. The rooms at the front of the hotel have a view over the marina and are double/double glazed for soundproofing against the traffic. The food, in all three eateries is excellent, buffet in the Harbour View, cafe style in the Cafe Bar and A La Carte in the Petit Pomme. The breakfast especially has something for everone, with the service second to none, many thanks Camillo and Tony the Maitre D's. One visit there were 10 of us and the staff were extremely helpful in keeping us all sat together. The prices for drinks, meals not included in the tariff are very reasonably priced. The Internet service through the TV in your room is a waste of time, cost £4.99 for 24hours, the keyboard was faulty and not able to book flights etc. Instead go to the Cafe Bar if you buy a drink you can use the internet free of charge. The only other gripe was at weekends there was the occasional group of louts who tried to gather in the lounge bar, the staff were always quick to evict them.
My visits were due to a family bereavement and we did infact hold the wake in one of their function rooms, the buffet and service was faultless. In a nutshell the staff are of the highest quality, with efficiency and courteous coming first and foremost, the food was excellent quality and the rooms and public areas spotless and pleasant decor, the new rooms are in what you might call boutique style. Well situated with all amenities close to hand. The express check out is a good idea, with any discepancies being quickly handled by a team of 'no problem' excellent reception staff.
Would I stay there again most definately without a doubt.
perfect in all respects!
The previous reviews say it all. Just perfect in terms of location, comfort, staff knowledge and helpfulness. We stayed there for our anniversary...and the hotel helpfully arranged a bouqet of roses and had some chilled white wine ready on our arrival at our room. The rooms were A+, recently refurbished with a room safe, flat screen tv etc. Its bang in the city centre with easy access to everything. The public car park 100 yards away is a real plus. The hotel is also walking distance from the main market, bay and the Jersey theatre. We caught an intriguing Agatha Christie performance while we were there. The food was excellent and the service even better. The Maitre de` at the Harbour Room (one of three restaurants at the hotel) was exceptional...kept an eye out for what was required yet was not intrusive in any way. The breakfast buffet was excellent.
Clearly one of the best hotels Ive stayed in.
Great hotel, staff were polite and helpful and the room was excellent e.g. plasma tv / nice interior etc. cafe bar serves amazing seafood platter (try it!) and is also great for afternoon coffee. The hotel is also in an excellent location, very central, close to all shops, bus station, harbour. I would definitely recommend this hotel. My only negative comment is that the plug in the sink did not work and rooms on the interior of the hotel can be subject to fumes from the kitchens below if you leave the window open. Not really a problem though. BTW breakfast is excellent.
Highly recommendable hotel
Spent a few days over Easter in St Helier, Jersey and stayed at the Pomme d'Or hotel which is ideally located in front of the marina and a few strides away from the heart of the town. The facade of the hotel is impressive and it doesn't disappoint inside. The staff are professional, friendly and helpful and ensured a smooth and swift check-in and check-out.
The interior decor in the foyer, bar & cafe area was tasteful and modern. The breakfast room was bright with large windows and lovely views of the marina and sea.
We had a standard double room on the top floor which was decorated in a pleasing contemporary style. There was plenty of space to move about and the furniture was stylish and in keeping with the decor. The bed was very comfortable. There was a wi-fi connection for those with laptops and a large flat screen TV fixed to the wall which also had speakers in the bathroom which I thought was a nifty idea.
Our room overlooked a main side street and although it was noisy outside on a Friday and Saturday night, the double glazing in the bedroom prevented this from being a problem. The bathroom window did not seem to be double glazed though so it was best to keep that door closed at night.
The bathroom had heated towel racks and was adequate in size, clean and modern with a small window and large mirror. The shower was the only disappointment about the room and indeed the hotel. There was simply no pressure to it and so showering was not a luxurious experience.
The breakfast (buffet-style) was delicious. The choice was fabulous with everything you could possible want from American waffles and maple syrup to continental, Scottish and hearty English fare. The quality of the food was high and there was no fear of arriving late and not having much of a choice as the food was constantly replenished, fresh and hot. The service was also very professional. You could definitely fill up for the whole day at breakfast.
There were two restaurants in the hotel - a carvery and a classy and very pricey restaurant. The menu of the latter did look delicious but we preferred to venture into town to eat in the evening - I would highly recommend Gio's restaurant (Italian) and La Taverne (Italian/French) which were a short stroll away. If you fancied a taxi or bus ride to St Brelade's bay, you should also definitely try Zanzibar's bistro with its stylish ambience, beautiful views directly over the sea and wonderful cuisine (booking in advance is recommended at weekends and in peak season).
The island is well worth a visit. There is plenty to see and the Underground War hospital should not be missed. St Helier is great for shopping and eating out. The bus service was unreliable and infrequent and taxis were expensive so hiring a car is an attractice option if you can afford the car parking fees! Of all the hotels we saw whilst we were there, the Pomme d'Or definitely seemed to be one of the best and its location is great and easily accessible.
A great week at the Pomme
This is our second stay at the Pomme and we were very much impressed with the refurbishments.
The 4th floor room was just perfect, plenty of space good quality fixtures and fittings, view over the harbour/ Liberation Square and well sound proofed.
All the hotel staff were friendly, helpful and attentive.
I would recommend any one of the three restaurants within the hotel.
Best 7 day break in ages.
We will stay at the Pomme again.
Excellent location and service
We read some very disappointing reviews about other hotels in Jersey on TripAdvsor and were begining to wonder whether any of your conributors liked any of the hotels on the island. However the Pomme D'or seemed to score well - so we tried it and very good it is too! All the staff are very polite and very helpful. We ate in the hotel serveral times and had both excellent food and wine. Pomme D'or is located down at the harbour, but also very near to the town centre shopping - much more central than some of the alternative hotels. We would highly recommend.
The only down sides were the initial room we were allocated - backed onto an inside courtyard with noisy aircon fans buzzing away. We asked to move and staff could not have been more helpful. Friday and Saturday nights seem to be celerbrated as on the UK mainland with lots of young folks wandering the streets, some the worse for drink - but nothing that Brits wont have seen before. Jersey seems to have problems with fog - we had big delays flying in and out.
Great location, good quality hotel ,stunning breakfasts
This is the third time i have stayed at this hotel - always seem to end up on the first floor where most of the rooms overlook a bar, nightclub, snooker-hall & restaurant. This means it can get a bit noisy on a Friday & Saturday night 'till 1am. This is the only bad point about the hotel & you can always close the double glazed windows & flick on the air-con .
Eveything else about the hotel is superb- rooms are excellent, staff efficient (love the express check-out option), dining room superb. Without a doubt the most impresssive thing i found was breakfast. I've stayed in many hotels all over Europe but , without doubt, this hotel has the best breakfast menu. Unlimited amounts of everything- cerials, pastries , fruit, every kind of cooked breakfast fare- i even think there was some sushi.
They use these credit card type keys for the door which means you can carry them with you at all times and don't have to keep leaving your key at reception when you go out.
Rooms were well kitted out -plenty of tea and coffee making facilities- even some biscuits although i was surprised there was no mini-bar or fridge in the room (maybe on an upgrade?).
I've stayed in a few hotels on Jesey and so far this has had the best mix of quality and comfort.
Excellent & friendly Pomme D'Or
Stayed here in July for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Staff very friendly and knowledgable, check in was a breeze.
Housekeeping was to a very high standard throughout the hotel, the bedroom was immaculate and I can be very picky! Lovely bathroom toiletries too. Breakfast was great with a wide range of buffet options. all the food was hot and fresh with the chefs continually checking and replacing the food. Restaurant manager very pleasant and ran the dining room very efficently and nothing seemed too much trouble. Would definately recommend this hotel and would most definately stay there again.
Wonderful experience staying at the Pomme D'or
Once again the Pomme D'or has been our touch of luxury for our annual break. We were there last year and had to return. And our welcome was as warm as the previous year and indeed the rooms, staff and food as good if not better than before.
This year we treated ourselves to a premium room and were thrilled. A restful comfortable sitting area in the room was a gem of relaxation with a beautiful view of Liberation Square. Double, doubled glazing ensured that we were not disturbed at night.
The food - what can I say -every morning and evening (we had half board, wonderful value) were our daily highlights with the excellent buffet presertation. You name it was there, together with the evening "hot table" with at least two joints carved in your presence. What more could one ask for ? Morning hot meals were always fulfilled with the normal platters and some new foods.
To sum up in a few words "We're going back in 2007".
