AIRPORT TO CENTRE

by packtarl

Whats the best way to get from the airport into Riga centre. There are 2 of us and we don't mind using public transport instead of taxis as we will be arrivig at lunchtime.

Re: AIRPORT TO CENTRE

Public transport is available, but the airport is very near the city center, so that a taxi for 2 isn't expensive.
Enjoy Riga!

Take the # 22 bus which 1 year ago was less than 1 Euro. I have been there many times and always use Municipal bus system. Taxi is expensive. 15 to 20 Euro.

Re: AIRPORT TO CENTRE

I am staying at the Hotel Tia. They emailed to get the 22 bus into the centre and then a number 3 trolley bus that passes right by the hotel. By centre do the mean the bus station? If not I'm wondering how I will know when the 22 bus meets the number 3 trolley bus route.

Re: AIRPORT TO CENTRE

Do as the instruction told you. The # 22 bus comes into the city near the Bus Station. In that general area you will see trolleys coming and going as well as buses. Look for the # trolley the Hotel told you. I am sure you will see once you get to that area. You do not go into the bus station for the #22 bus or the trolley.

Travel Tips for Riga

Art Nouveau or Jugendstil

by blackbirdxx

The most interesting buildings are in the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style. You also find medieval houses and churches. But nowhere in central Europe I saw so many facades in this kind of architecture.

Christmas Market

by MalenaN

Every year, with start on the first advent, there is a Christmas market on Doma Square. Around a big Christmas tree are stalls selling Latvian craft, linen, amber, glassware, sheepskin, hand knitted gloves and caps, wood craft and more. There are also things to eat and drink, like roasted almonds, gingerbread, sausages, smoked fish and hot wine. It is a nice time to spend some time walking around in.
There is also a small market in Livi Square.
Already in 1510 there was a Christmas tree in a public square in Riga.

Sparkling wine - Rigas shampanietis

by maria_hz about Rigas Balzams stores

Riga champagne is tasty and costs only a fraction of the proper namesake from France. There are different types; we usually go for pussaldais (semi-sweet) or pussausais (semi-dry).

Rigas balzams is another local drink, a bit like Vana Tallinn from their neighbouring country to the North, or Jaegermeister. It is very flavourful and traditionally considered very good against colds ;) not to my taste, but then again, to each his own. The Rigas balzams bottle is a brown ceramics bottle and it looks rather nice. Much cheaper than at home in the supermarket, more at the airport though not outrageously expensive.

Some Latvian - Irish fusion

by ExVoto about Tim McShane's

Youngest Irish pub in the city - survided change of owners and gained more than lost from it. You can choose your beer from almost 30 available and have a meal from Irish specialities to Latvian chef's favorites. Thursdays are for live music.English, German speaking staff. Great place to celebrate traditional Irish festivals. Suffers a bit from teenagers, but staff are good in fighting them :). If you are tired from drinking and eating then little cellar with dance floor is for you. Works from 11.00 until last Irish leaves the pub. I feel my self like Irish after few Guinness pints :-). Who doesn't ? No drescode, feel free to relax in tuxedo or sportswear.
