I don't usually take a hostel accommodation when I travel, or if I do, I ask for private double room with own facilities (shower, toilet). In some places the noise of the youth has disturbed us and we are not teenagers anymore...don't want to listen to people coming home one after each other from midnight until 6 a.m.
In this place - no disturbance! A kind of an adult version of a hostel. Very much recommended for those wanting to save a little money - and the feet.
For budget travelers - there is a McDonalds downstairs in the same building! It is open late.
In the walking distance there are many things to do - casinos, nice restaurants.
Unique Quality: Location. Just a few minutes walk to the old town, next to the bus and railway station.
Reasonable prices when the great location is considered.
Security: I as an ex-security person was happy to notice the security precautions: you were given both a plastic card key/reader and a usual key, one to each door, so no-one couldn't come in just having one key. There were smoke alarm on the ceiling.
A big room with own shower (no toilet, that was in the corridor).
Balthostel offers extremely bare rooms (ours contained nothing but a bunkbed and a plastic chair) and is not worth the price. At $30 per person, I'd expect at least a table or a picture on the wall! The bathrooms were smelly as well. It's fairly convenient to the bus and train station, but a bit of a walk into Old Town. Keep looking.
