Trams in Riga
Hi there.
Can anyone give me information on the timetable and cost, from Vilinus to Riga?
By bus.
thanks in advance
I haven't been to these cities before, but this might help. Best wishes,

There are several coaches everyday. Journey time is about 2 hours.
Try contacting a local Vter, or look in a Lonely Planet/Rough Guide for timetables.
I think it's every 3 hours or so.
Travelling between Vilnius and Riga is fairly easy. Travelling time is usually around 4.20 hours for the daily bus (no bus can make it in 2 hours, sorry), and 5 hours for the one in the night.

Every day at 6,30, 7.00-7.30, 10.00, 12.30, 14.15, 16.00, 18.30, 21.00, 3.35 and some additional depending on the days. I would not recommend the one at 3.35 in the morning, since it can be late coming from Minsk and also I am not very familiar with the availability of tickets on that bus.
Prices - 16 euro for the cheapest (6.30, 7.00, 10.30, 21.00), 17.40 euro for the more expensive(12.30, 14.15) and 20.30 euro for the most expensive (6.30, 18.30). You can buy the ticket at the bus station or on the bus (even at 2 in the night) and in every imaginable currency (Euro, Litas, Lats, Kroons, probably Rubles too).
Have fun.
OK, I concede defeat!
I have done the same journey in reverse (from Riga), but can't remember how long it took! It wasn't a dragging journey, that's for sure!!
In fact I was bound for Kaunas, but the coach stops via Vilnius!! Yet I thought it was roughly 2 hours to Vilnius. Thinking back it takes 1.5 hours Vilnius to Kaunas!!
The Baltic countries are cool. Do try to visit Jurmala near Latvia.
Thanks a lot for the information! It would be more than enough.
Regards

Most steeples of Riga churches are topped by gilded cocks. Contrary to the sinister biblical significance of this animal, in Latvian folkore it stands for vigilance and safeguards from evil, when the cock crows for the third time, the devil must retreat back to hell.
The practice of placing a cock on the spire of churches stems from Middle Age Europe, where the cock also had a practical use as a windvane.
I'm a football fan, and I wanted to buy some merchandising of Skonto Rīga or Latvian national team, but it seemed quite impossible to do that... since no shops sell that merchandise! But walking along the new town of Rīga I managed to get in front of Skonto Stadion, where I was there was a match in the afternoon, and it was a "derby match" between Skonto and FK Rīga.
So i came back in the afternoon to see the match, and it was nice. Very cheap ticket (about 2 euros!), very few people at the stadium, very easy win for Skonto (4-1 the final result) which has become Latvian champion for the 13th time in a row this year!
So, if you are a football fan you can take a walk till Skonto Stadion, it's very nice, they sell the original football shirt (30 euros), and serve good beer, of course... oh and the bar girls are yuuuum! ;-)
You can find their shops in many of the shopping centres, at least Centrs and Origo have an outlet. The main shop is in Berga Bazaars. They sell and make handmade Belgian style chocolates, which are absolutely delicious. You can also enjoy nice coffees and delicious cakes in their cafe. Try their caramel , orange or mint filled pralines, yummy! depends on how many you want to try =)
This is the view of New Riga from the old town. You can see the Vansu brigde and the new building on the other side (west side).
Its very nice both to see Riga from the new part towards the old and vice-versa. Its gives you a better sense of how the city has grown.
