Only the best for Sourbugger's lady

I'll give it to this hotel - they claim to be five star and they were. I normally find something to gripe about when I stay at a hotel, but I couldn't find one fault with this place. Well maybe just one - i could quite happily strangle the caged birds in thedining room, or maybe feed them through the meat mincer.

The hotel is officially a 'small' hotel, and this means that the individual touch can be achieved. The hotel laid in a Birthday cake and drink in the room, even though we had not mentioned it. They clearly worked it out from the d.o.b on the booking form - now that I call service and attention to detail.

The decor is stylishly old fashioned without being gawdy or ostentatious. The stags head and tiger hunting pictures may seem old gashioned and un-PC, but hunting is big business in latvia , so that's fair enough to my mind.

The restaurant food is of high quality, if a little expensive by Latvian standards. It was good to see that a good deal of seafood was on the menu, much of it locally caught in the Baltic. A sample dish would be :

Stewed halibut fillet with mussels in curry, coconut milk, ginger sauce, couscous, eggplant caviar and crunchy parmesan 15.90 LVL

With a bit of shopping around on internet hotel booking engines (including out own of course) you should get a good deal on what will assuredly be a very comfortable stay.
