The beach is not far from centre of Riga (old Riga) and you can easily reach it by train (you have to go to the city called Jurmala), which is the cheapest transport in Latvia. The train goes 2-3 times per hour, but during tourism season it could be a little bit incovenient because there are tons of people going to Jurmala especially in hot days (June and July). The ride will cost about an 1 euro in one way (you have to go the station called Majori or Dzintari). I do not recommend to use taxi, because it will cost you about 25-30 euro in one way.

House of the Blackheads (Schwarzhäupterhaus): This architectural monument was first built in the 14th century, destroyed in 1941 and then rebuilt in 2001. It once hosted a brotherhood of foreign merchants.http://www.activetravellatvia.com
Travel Tips for Riga
Riga Harbour
by georeiser
Riga harbour is the 2nd largest Latvian seaport. It is located in the the River Daugava, and the terminals of the harbour are along the riverbanks and channels. It is said to be one of the last remaining dockland areas in Europe to be redeveloped, so the size will increase in the future. Passenger ferries are traveling to Riga from Lubeck in Germany and Stockholm in Sweden.
Have purely farmers lunch - Rye Bread
by ExVoto
If you are starving and can not wait anymore for diner, thats would be for you. Try Latvian rye bread with smoked gammon!!! Usualy when i leave Latvia for a longer time i take one with me. Once i didn't and that was too bad - i never thought that one can miss bread as I did and my friends. It can last fresh for a weeks, but that doesnt mean that there is some preservatives in it. Try "Laca" bakery's bread and you will understand what I mean. You will find it shops or in bazaars.
Exhibition all 'Arsenals'
by jbaayen
This small museum is located in a 19th century customs warehouse near the Daugava bridge and the castle (Torna iela 1). When I was there they had an exhibition of some really nice modern Latvian art, basically anything but paintings. Upstairs there was a room with children's paintings on the wall, and in the middle there were some children sitting on the ground painting. I had never seen something like that in museum before.. :)
I paid just a few santims to get in... even if you don't like it you won't have wasted fortunes on it. :)
After dinner drinks
by svoures about Skyline Bar
For a great end to a hard day, a visit to the Skyline Bar is recommended. The bar is located at the top of the Reval Hotel, on the 26th floor. It offers a wonderful panoramic view of Riga, so make sure you find a table by the large windows to enjoy spectacular sunsets. The bar is a mixture of wood, steel and glass, with very comfortable sofas mixing in with chairs and stools, comfy pillows and relaxing music. Although no dress code is enforced, the bar is usualy crowded with business people, hotel customers and well dressed crowd so an effort to look smart is always appreciated.
Flying To Riga
by SueWarwick
I flew Ryan Air from Liverpool to Riga for quite a reasonable price.
Flight arrived on time in but the plane was a bit dirty with chewing gum stuck to the back of the plastic seats.
Remember however that however cheap the price looks, you have to add on the taxes etc. Ryan Air also have a few hidden costs. You'll be looking at around £60 for a return trip.
That said, it is still cheap if not always cheerful (but lets not get in to Ryan Air bashing I'll leave that to Skytrax (http://www.airlinequality.com/))
Flight is roughly 3 hours and the majority of it is over water but I was lucky enough to fly over a Red Arrows training session

Q: 40 minutes between flights in Riga airport "Hello,
I'm considering a week-end trip to Istanbul.
I've found needed itinerary with Air Baltic at descent price, via Riga...."
A: "I flew Istanbul - Copenhagen once via Riga with a very tight layover, but it was cery quick to change planes with no long lines and no taking your shoes off show.
