casino security mafia thug

i must warn anyone intending to stay here not to go through the door that says casino, especially if you are just looking for the hotel restrooms. They have a disgusting thug of a man as security who seems to get a kick out of physically attacking people who unwittingly stray into his area to use the toilets which are just through the door. In any other country he'd be sued for assault. Until the hotel does something about this problem, my advice would be don't stay here - and definitely don't use the casino!!!!

Unique Quality: mafia-style casino and nightclub is off-putting

perfect for budgets

after getting spun out as soon as we got off the bus in the main bus/train station, we fell into the door of a hostel named 'posh'
first sights were gastly, looked like a poor friends bedsit, never the less, there were 2 of us, and they gave us a 5 person dorm exlusively for us for only 10 lats per night,
the 'girls' who ran it were also lovely and polite (seems to be a rare thing in riga)

Unique Quality: great location, other than the fact by the end of the visit we found out we were in the roughest highest crime rate area!, we kinda worked that one out for ourselfs withing a minute of being there

  • Opinion of Price: least expensive

Good quality hotel in the centre of Riga

The quality of service is very high, the doorman and reception in particular is friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable.

The lobby bar is 24 hour, its a good place to site, if you've nowhere better to go, whether your are guest or not.

The rooms are good enough, our room had ensuit bathroom, television, radio and ample storage. The plumbing worked well with plenty of hot running water. However, it was old fashioned hand shower over a bath.

Unique Quality: Location couldn't be better. You stroll one direction into the heart of the old town and the other direction towards the Opera House and the parks that mark the edge of the old city.

Good location

This is a 4* hotel which used to be an Intourist Hotel, so the large wide corridors and blocky pillars are still evident. But don't let this put you off as the hotel rooms, reception and bar are nicely decorated.

We stayed for 3 nights after booking through www.hostelworld.com as they had an offer. We didn't really take advantage of the facilities, which included a sauna, massage by appointment, hairdressers and 24 hour room service.

The restaurant for breakfast was handiy located opposite our rooms so we had just a short walk to what was a lovely breakfast. Lots of cold meats, cheeses and salads. Also available were hot items such as bacon, eggs and susages. Cerals and juices were also available.

The bar downstairs was resonably priced and worth relaxing in at the end of the day with friendly staff and big comfy chairs. Also music was playing at a very subtle volume.

Unique Quality: The bedrooms were nicely furnished with a desk, a table and three chairs.

Sauna available.

Massage available by appointment

Well stocked mini bar which wasn't too expensive.

Our rooms had small balconies overlooking the theatre and small park. Great for making mini snowmen on when it snows. Although I don't reccomend going outside in just indoor clothes (no footwear) during the winter ;-)

Also attahed to the hotel was Tobago Casino if you want it, although we didn't venture that far.

There is a nightclub attached to the hotel as well. This does feature topless dancers but you are unawre of it when in the hotel. I can't comment on the club as I didn't go there.
