Old Riga
by Lilasel
Riga is divided into 6 regions and suburbs. In the centre between the Daugava River and the city canal the historical part of Riga - Old Riga is situated. Take a walk through the labyrinth of medieval streets. Gothic churches and ancient buildings remind you of the Middle Ages. Old Riga contains over 150 architectural monuments. It's really worth to see! During your walk I'm sure you will feel that you have made a journey back in the time. A foreigner who is here for the first time can even lose his way. But we, Rigans, are so happy to be lost here... And after couple of hours we always open a door of any cozy bar or cafe....It is difficult to explain, you should feel this atmosphere by yourself! Welcome!
Russian influence
by elPierro
Walking around in Riga makes you think there is not much ethnical diversion. But Latvians are actually a small group in the population of Riga. Many people from the Ukraine, Belarus and Russia (as well as the other Baltic countries) live in Riga. You can see a fair amount of influenec as you will find quite a deal of Cyrillic writings around. And not to forget, the central market which is Russian style.
Also Russian food can be tried out. But when you want to drink a beer, stick to the Latvian Zelta..

Linen factory outlet
by maria_hz about Larelini
If you go to Latvia, you definitely have to bring home some of the good quality linen products that are to be had. Linen used to be flaxen coloured and little variation in the decorative themes, but these days, you can get anything your heart desires - at a price of course. Linen is expensive where I come from, and it isn't exactly terribly cheap in Riga either, but there are shops and then there are outlets.
Fancy shops in Riga that sell linen stock high quality items, but they are quite expensive, even when converted into Euros.
However, this little secret hideaway factory outlet is a place you can get linen at a good price by any standards. This is in fact a factory outlet that is some distance away from the fashionable shopping streets, but well worth a detour.
Open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm. Linen in any shape, form and size; curtains, table cloths, tee towels, bedding... Less than at home.

Here you'l find a kind of disco pub, with a dance floor, a pair of bars, tables...
It's usually full of young people.
