Latvia to Sweden (Riga - Stockholm?)
by Matt-100
Hello!
I'm flying into Riga the end of november and want to cross the Baltic Sea to go to Sweden... Does anyone now how to get the cheapast tickets? Is there maybe a cheaper connection than Riga - Stockholm on Tallink? Any ferry's / company's who offer deck-seats? Promotional fares? It will be a one way footpassenger ticket for 2 persons.
Thank you very very much!
Matt

Hi! Seems than Tallink company has no competitors. More about offers you will find here: http://www.tallinksilja.com/en
Hey, your ferry trip will be with adventures - the Baltic sea is very stormy in November...

Do you have a special wish to cross the Baltic by ferry? It can be a rough ride at the end of November.
Ryanair flies between Riga and Skavsta (100 km SW of Stockholm) for just taxes and fees.

Hello!
Thank you for your fast answers!
My interest in crossing the Baltic? I'm just a fan of ferrycrossing and I just wanted to cross the Baltic once instead of flying over it...
Rough ride... Meaning dangerous ride? Or just a bit shaky? And am I the only one with an idea like this? Or are there still a lot of people crossing end November?
Thank you once again for your answers and information!!

Maybe not dangerous - the last ferry that shipwrecked in tha Baltic was in 1994. The ferry departs Riga 17:30 and arrives Stockholm 09:30, so most of the crossing will be in the dark. If I were to do the crossing, I would definitely do it in the summer time.

I meant shaky - the result of big waves and strong winds. As about people during the November, I think that there will be few people. Because airplains became more popular.
Travel Tips for Riga
The Daugava River
by tini58de
The Daugava River is 1000 km long, but only the last 350 km pass through Latvia. Here in Riga the Daugava has been the main artery of transport and life for hundreds of years. For the tourist the river has quite some fascinating aspects as well:
- fascinating bridges
- lovely walks on both banks of the Daugava
- river cruises (see my transportation tip)
- exploring the harbor Spending the last money on a one hour river cruise on the Daugava!
Latvian Lats and Money Exchange
by HORSCHECK
The local currency in Latvia is the Latvian Lats (Ls). Cash can be exchanged at banks and exchange offices. Before exchanging money, I recommend you to check the rates and fees of a few offices. There are often differences in the rates.
The sign "0 % COMMISSION" does mostly refer only to "SELL" and not to "BUY" transactions. So don't hesitate to ask, how much you really get for your money.
Don't change your money on the street; these people usually cheat you with other foreign currencies.
Alberta street
by Lilasel
Alberta Street carries the name of the man who founded Riga. Now it is one of the most beautiful and splendid streets in the city, representing all tat Jugendstil can offer. The construction of this street took place in a rather short period of time - from 1901 till 1908. The authors of the magnificent buildings are M.Eisenstein, N.Mandelstam and K.Pekshens.
These buildings are rich in picturesque details, free composition and perfect performance. You will find astonished faces, masks, large number of different animal sculptures etc.
Bar with a View

Lovely View during the day, bit dark in the evening. would be nice to see the sunset up here. Casual Smart seems to be the order of the day for most bars in Riga
To Riga from Finland
by Blondiina
We flew to Riga from Tampere with Ryanair, which one of the few budget airlines operating also from Finland. If you're lucky you may get your return tickets for as little as 40 euros, which is really cheap. We didn't get our tickets quite that cheap, but got a very nice price still. I must admit we had some doubts about using a budget airline but everything went well. We were even ahead of schedule both ways and I hear this is pretty common. With their affordable prices, we'll surely use them again. I just wish they would have direct flights to more destinations from Finland.
