Telephones
by Vija_v
If you don’t have your mobile with you, but need to make a call, it is always possible to use one of the public phones, which you can find all around the city.
Some of them work by using the coins, but mostly you need a prepaid card, which is possible to buy in any food or newspaper place.
Wrap up well
by SueWarwick
I visited at the end of October and it did get very cold. Most nights the temperature was below freezing.
Take lots of warm clothes and wrap up well in layers.
Don't worry, everyone (even the locals) do the same and there are plenty of places in bars adn restaurants to leave all your bulky coats etc.
Central Market
by HORSCHECK
Take a stroll around the Central Market, which is one of the largest in Europe. The indoor part of the market takes place in 5 enormous zeppelin hangars which were built in the 1930s.
Vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products, flowers and much more is provided freshly at the countless market stalls. The Central Market is situated close to the railway station and the main bus station.
A quiet drink
by Blondiina about Idalgo
Idalgo is a small and friendly, easily missed Spanish bar in a brick walled cellar in the old town. They serve wines and cocktails allthough the wine list wasn't as good as inyourpocket.com let us believe. Nonetheless this is a nice place for a quiet drink with very affordable prices.
Bus or taxi to Riga ?
by DynamoNL
Comin' from the airport for the first time and what to do for transportation ?
You can take the bus, no:22 to the city,
it cost you 20 cents, very cheap, but takes
about half an hour. Not handy with luggage.
You also can take a taxi, it'll bring you in about 10 minutes to the center of Riga and
cost you about 7 lat. That's 11 euro or $ 14.00
Prices are not allways the same, but you
should not pay more then 10 lat.
So take care and go !
