I will probably go to Riga for a few days in December and will look for a nice and central hostel. Can anyone recommend a good hostel (with dorms), which is not considered to be a party hostel.
I stayed at Dome Pearl Hostel (http://www.dome-hostel.com)in 2006, it was nice place to stay and the shared bathrooms were clean. :)

If you are looking for a quite Hostel with a really homely feel, check out "The Riga Out There House" Its just a bit out from the old city but right in the center of what you might call the "Real Riga" a friend of mine here in Riga runs it and they have gotten good reviews lately from back-packers. You can find them on hostelworld.... Dress warm, its cold over here these days!!

Thank you! Both places looks nice, but in the end I booked Barons Hostel, which also sounds to be nice.
If you like Art Nouveau architecture (Jugendstil) , Riga is the place to go. Many centuries-old ornate buildings of the architect Mikahail Eisenstein survived in the Old Town of Riga (Vecriga).
Among other streets, Art Nouveau buildings are concentrated in the streets around Elizabetes iela.
Amber is probably the most attractive tourist souvenir in the Baltic States. It originally is fossilized pine tree sap. Amber is attractive as jewellery because of its light yellow color. In Riga you can buy it quite cheaply from little stalls on roadside.
Seems kind of tradition that when a couple gets marries, they leave a padlock with their names and wedding date attached to bridges.
Really something particular, something to leave the remember alive forever.
Really good bar to visit at night, to get the full effect of the candlelit surrounding. You enter from the door on the main road, but then immediately go down a set of stairs in to the cellar.
There you will find comfy leather sofas and a great cocktail menu.
Busses are modern and drive frequently, though they can be completely stuffed in the morning.
Rides cost 0,20Lats and tikes are bought at the conductor in the bus, they will usually come for you to sell you the ticket. Changing busses or trams requires a new ticket.
