MINOTEL VUESNUTIS (HOTEL) by matcrazy1 GREAT LOCATION Minotel viesbutis (hotel) was 3-star, relatively small hotel located 1 min. on foot from both the main square of the Old Town and Vilniaus gatve - main walking street. It was quiet and safe location in the heart of the Old Town, simply the best possible. PARKING LOT There was small (for a few cars) parking lot exclusively for hotel guests in front of a hotel. Driving from Muitines gatve (street) turn right to Kuzmos gatve and before the first building on the left (Minotel) turn left, skip a road sign "no traffic" put there. SERVICE Recepcionists were OK, nice young women and guys could speak English. Credit cards of Visa and Mastercard/Eurocard system were accepted.
ROOM Size: American standart size :-) = quite large as for Europe and very nice home-like interior design. Well, we wanted to take a room with one king size bed but all were already booked. Instead we had to get two beds on the 3rd floor. Warning: there was no lift in the hotel. I am not sure whether they offer non-smoking rooms but in my room for smoking there was no smell of cigarettes. Air-condition was centrally managed (no way to change temperature) but it was OK. Rooms at old building were high but had small windows, avoid rooms with a large tree behind a window unless you want to live at dark room. Standart room facilities for 3-star hotel: - telephone - too small TV set with satellite TV (but no my favourite Travel Channel and Discovery Travel & Adventure); but I could check the weather forecast for the next day - mini bar and mini safe - coffe or tea making facilities and complimentary tea (for 2) but they forgot about coffee at my room. BATHROOM Surprisingly large (and high) - toilet, shower, hair dryer, surely hotel towels, shampoo, soaps etc. BAR/RESTAURANT Usual buffet breakfast served from 7.00 till 10.00 am. Surprisingly good, fresh food of enough good choice. THE BEST PRICE ? It was the least expensive 3-star hotel located in Kaunas centre/downtown. Keep it, please! We paid 240 Lt (taxes, parking lot and breakfast included) that was €72 or US$88 or 336 Polish zl. Well, keep in mind that although Lithuania is inexpensive country, good quality hotels are NEVER cheap there esp. when located in centre/downtown of touristy cities. My country, Poland was suprisingly less expensive in that matter. MY ROOM IN MINOTEL VIESBUTIS (HOTEL) by matcrazy1 As I already stated my recommendation was Minotel Kaunas. But if you are looking for something different at price/location etc. follow the following links, please: Kaunas Hotel & Accommodations Guide on VT - read reviews of other VT-ers, check and book your hotel using Find Hotel Deals tool, follow sponsored links for Kaunas. Good luck :-) Where to stay in Kaunas - guide to accommodations in Kaunas by In Your Pocket (reviews, approx. prices) Lodging in Kaunas by Tourist Information Centre of Kaunas Region - list of accommodation (with prices) in and around Kaunas (in German as well).
A few tips on hotels in Lithuania and Kaunas: 1. NO CHEAP ACCOMMODATIONS OUTSIDE CITY The main incovenience for driving visitor to Lithuania, like me, was lack of inexpensive accommodations located outside cities, along main highways. Well, there were a few new motels by say Via Baltica but they were never cheap. When I crossed Polish border I could easy find good and cheaper than in Lithuania accommodtaions in say Suwalki (below 100 Lt for double room). 2. WHERE WAS CHEAPER? Well, cheap were private rooms/apartments for hire (say 20 Lt or over per person in cities and even only 10 Lt in Palanga) but it wasn't option for me as I didn't know my schedule. Additionaly their location (safe district or not?) and quality (renovated or not?) were always questionable. How to find them? For a foreign and not Lithuanian-speaking visitor the only possibility is either to use any Lithuanian travel agent (higher price but usually better quality - for sure in Kaunas: look here) or to ask English-speaking locals or other visitors at place (time needed and no guarantee). Exception: in Palanga locals stood along highway at entry with large advertisement tables: rooms or so. In cities cheaper were hotels of lower quality in not nice residential districts, often located among huge soviet style apartment buildings and large, not renovated for years hotels of old Soviet era; both were not my recommendation.
