After arrival buy a guide book "Kaunas In Your Pocket" (~1 GBP), or take a free one at the Tourist Information Center. Now you can visit www.inyourpocket.com , click on LT map, then explore.
Not very much to do in LT in winter, it's dark season ;).

hi
yeah...not good choise of timing.....not even proper basketball match on the time:))))))))) just joking.....
Have you already booked the hotel in Kaunas? If you did that then also rent a car- you can go to Druskininkai to aquapark and spa. Aquapark is nothing special, just like anywhere, but there are a big spa center which is really good. And almost all the other hotels have spa , too. But if it's too far then you can go for spa in Birstonas, just some 30km from Kaunas, in this case you can take the bus.
There are few clubs and bars in the city center and they are easy to find when you have In Pocket guide. Ask your hotel stuff -they might give you schedule of what's going on. But some of clubs might have "closed" parties. In fact, here, in Kaunas we rather prefer friend parties than big gatherings, so our clubs are not so popular than in Vilnius. But the rumours say that EXIT is the best dance club in Lithuania. And it's right in the center of Kaunas.
It might be boring 4 days in Kaunas so take a trip to Vilnius, too
For local food try Berneliu Uzeiga . If local foods would be to heavy for you -drink some Trejos Devynerios- vodka with herbs- my grandma used to say it's very good for stomach!
Have a nice time in my town
and feel free to ask any question about Kaunas and Lithuania- i'll be glad to help

Travel Tips for Kaunas
Kaunas at night
by HORSCHECK
Some buildings and bridges are beautifully illuminated at night.
I especially liked the blue and red illumination of the Aleksoto bridge (Aleksoto tiltas) which spans the river Nemunas just south of Kaunas' city centre.
Other buildings well worth a visit at night are the Church of St. Gertrude and the red brick Vytautas Church
Do you want to develop your pics?
by matcrazy1
If you want to develop your pictures in Kaunas, no worries, look for world known, photo labs like Kodak or Fuji (on my picture at Town Hall Square 1; Rotuses aikste 1). There were a few photo labs located at Laisves aleja as well (including 1 hour service).
Keep in mind that developing pictures both from classical camera films and from digital sources was a little bit more expensive in Kaunas than in Poland or, say Berlin (in 2004).
The most euroenthusiastic city?
by matcrazy1
I was in Kaunas just before the election to the European Parliament (13th June 2004), the first in which Lithuanians took part just after joining European Union on 1 May 2004. No wonder that I could see many election posters, flags etc., like on my picture, both in Kaunas and in other cities and towns throughout Lithuania.
Lithuanians elected 13 of 732 members of European Parliament and with the turnout of 48.2% they were more politicaly active than say Polish people with only 20.42%. Well, Lithuanians were the most enthusiastic for European Union among 15 new EU members - over 91% of them voted for joining EU, in city of Kaunas the most in Lithuania, almost 95% - results here. Is Lithuania a country of euroenthusiasts? Is Kaunas the most euroenthusiastic city in Europe? We will see... in a few years...
Flag of Kaunas
by matcrazy1
I could see a flag of Kaunas on the old Town Hall. It depicted silver wild ox with the cross on top of his head. It was young flag of a city, adopted in 1999. Well, the cross stood for christian religion but what did the wild ox stand for?
Kaunas received city rights in February 1408 from Grand Duke Vytautas. An ox was on the oldest seals of Kaunas, from the late 15th century. That time only the dukes and high nobility were allowed to hunt oxes, which were probably chosen as a symbol for strength and honour.
Do you look for a post office?
by matcrazy1
Excuse, it's more Lithuanian than Kaunas local custom tip. I will transfer this tip to my Lithuania page soon.
Whenever you look for a post office in Lithuania, look for this sign, on my picture. It was official logo of Lietuvos Pastas = Lithuanian Post (State Enterprise Lithuania Post). The bright yellow logo consisted of the black "postal/hunting?-horn" and the geometrical symbol/coat of arms of the oldest Lithuania inside.
