Kaunas has many green parks
by satara
On Sunday I was having a walk near Kaunas castle and in Santaka park and while escaping from strong sun under the tall and green branches of maples, birches and oaks I just tried to count how many parks and green areas Kaunas has.. I must admit, I lost the count.. I know at least 6 parks or green areas in the center of Kaunas and there are some more in the 'sleeping-districts' (as they are called by some people who live there). Sometimes local people don't understand what a treasure of nature they have just in front of their work office or home.. And some of the parks in Kaunas are not worse than St James park of London or other famous parks.
Feeding swans, geese and ducks

Near Vytautas church in the Nemunas river all year round you can find geese, ducks and swans waiting for your generous hand to give them some pieces of bread. Seems these birds are not willing to leave Kaunas - staying here in cold and in hot times..
MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS LITHUANIAN STYLE
by Sininen
When I was in Kaunas it was both May Day and Mother's Day so I was able to witness some local customs. Happy young people were driving on the bed of the truck or in a special car where beverage was served. They seemed to have fun and they sure made a lot of noice!
Thin and hard napkins

Excuse, it's more Lithuanian or even Eastern European (Polish as well) than Kaunas local custom. I will transfer this tip to my Lithuania page soon.
They gave us small, white paper napkins (put in this holder, on my picture) in Avilio terasa restaurant. They were very thin and hard compared to those ones in, say, the USA.
Such napkins were common in many, especially inexpensive restaurants throughout Lithuania. Cloth napkins to put on one's lap were available exclusively in the most touristy (and expensive) restaurants.
Student's costume

I went to visit Vytautas Church in the Saturday's morning. I saw many locals coming there to attend the holy mass which was just about to start. I was surpriced to see many young girls dressed in black clothes with characteristic peaked caps.
Look at my picture. Hmm... I am not at all paparazzi, I felt ashamed to put my camera directly towards a face of unknown girl...
