Re: Second hand Cameras?

Hi Chris,

If you mean old photo cameras, I would juggest you to check this page, although it is in lithuanian: http://www.fotoaparatai.tai.lt/
Just browse it by various links, I am sure you will fint something. Or you shoud try to contact them by e-mail. I am almost sure they speak English.
There is one flea market in Kaunas "URMAS" market. Location:http://www.urmas.net/zemelapis.php
It takes place almost every day - but I give just few percent that you'll find there some cameras.
Well, but I have no idea abput new but used cameras.
Good luck:)

Travel Tips for Kaunas

Vilnius and Kaunas differences

by Raimix

I should define some difference points of these two main Lithuanian cities:

First difference:
Vilnius is more cosmopolitan city and here are only about 55% of Lithuanians. In Vilnius it can bee easily heard Russian, Polish and other languages.
Kaunas, called "Lithuanian spirit city" has about 90% of Lithuanians and not so lot influenced by other nations.

Second difference:
Vilnius architecture is mostly baroque and influenced by Polish. Here are lot of Russian Orthodox churches comparing with Kaunas.
Kaunas has lot of monumental gothic and rennaisanse architecture, litlle influenced by German style.

Third difference:
Vilnius is a mountaining area and the historical centre is on mount and on the base of mount.
Kaunas is in lower area comparing with Vilnius and Kaunas historical centre is more near low area and in confluence of two rivers.

Fourth difference:
Vilnius is getting more support from governments and is in higher economy rate than Kaunas. Vilnius is more restaurated, more new buildings appear.

I sure it is more differences between these cities, as every city is unique. I am enjoyed by Laisves avenue, old town and Pazaislis monastery.

What is more, in my point of view, Kaunas has really unforgettable museums.

Holy Trinity Church

by bugulma

Holy Trinity Church is situated near of Rotusesquare (behind Rotuse if you're staying on the square). It was built in 1624-1634 and after 1668 was renovated after gret fire. Last restoration works were in 1899. Theological seminary is located in the courtyard of the church.

Smiley happy people! ;-)

by Carletto76

Look at this church, isn't it a BIG smiley? ;-)
No, ok, it's just a solar clock o the back of a lutheran church (at least if I remember well), but I liked this picture, and I wanted to put it here on VT! ;-)
I had really a good time in Kaunas, and just met one person from there, but she was really smiley, happy and really kind with us! I'm talking about our dear VT member Remigia, of course! And I can say I know also another VT member from Kaunas, and she is another very nice and happy girl (and she speaks perfect Italian too!)... and I'm talking about Gitana (vysnaite) this time!
The important thing is just not to talk much about Vilnius and just concentrate on Kaunas! ;-)
Anyway, I hope to come back to Kaunas one day and see it with much more time, and hoping to meet some other other nice people from there, also in real life, not only on VT! ;-)

The best dark rye Lithuanian bread

by matcrazy1

I tasted traditional Lithuanian dark/black bread a few times during my two trips to Lithuania. And I must admit that this one served (bread and rolls) for breakfast in my Minotel Hotel belonged to the best :-). Add here some delicious sweet buns.

Lithuanian dark rye bread (rugine duona) is probably the oldest and surely basic Lithuanian food product. It's said that Lithuanian bread can stay fresh for up to 2-3 weeks when stored in a cool and dry place. Traditionally Lithuanian bread was served with a piece of white cheese, a slice of cucumber put on a slice of bread and with some honey spread on it.

Do you like... cucumbers? :-)

by matcrazy1

Green-uniformed policemen were rather charmingly nicknamed "cucumbers" by locals :-) in Kaunas. Well, there were more cucumbers in local restaurants than on streets. I found them once at the old town looking for "wrong" drivers to stop and to ticket them.

Just in case... tickets must be paid exclusively in Lithuanian currency (cash only) and always at place. Be prepared...
