Here you can check the timetables and prices of buses to Siauliai. There is also one train per day departing at 15:52. It is cheaper and slightly faster than the buses.
The airport is quite out of town, so you need to take bus no.29 to reach the bus station. Check its routing and timetable here, tickets cost 1,80 if bought in advance or 2 if from the driver. It takes quite a while to reach the city center, about 40 minutes.

A little more "adventurous" and possibly faster way to reach the city if you have little luggage and you just missed the no.29 is to go to the main road (about 10min walking) and find the bus stop there - Karmelava village. Frequent minibuses stop there en route to the bus station in Kaunas. Tickets cost 3 litai, but they might take as little as 20min to reach the city. You can check the schedules from Karmelava to Kaunas in the first website I gave you. As far as I know, still other minibuses, not listed in the first website, but in the second one, drop you off close to the castle in central Kaunas, which is convenient for sightseeing, but not for taking onward connections by bus. So, you might want to make sure if the minibus you flag down goes to Pilies (castle) or Stotis (station).
Hope this helps

That train Kaunas-Shiauliai runs on Fridays and Sundays only. Not daily.
Travel Tips for Kaunas
Rotuse
by bugulma
Rotuse (Town Hall) was built in the middle of XVI century in gothic style but after several reconstructions it has classic style with baroque nowadays. Now the building is a bit higher than original that happened after all restorations. In medivial times it was a residence for the city head, then it was a storage yard. In Russian empire it was a residence for Russian Tsar. In Soviet times. it was a theatre. Nowadays it is official administrative center and as I heard wedding ceremonies have been going here as well.
English and German
by matcrazy1
In Kaunas most touristy points of interests (like in Museum of Devils) I found basic information in 3 languages: surely Lithuanian and additionally in English and German. In Vilnius there were never in German but often in both Polish and Russian. No wonder, if you look back at different history of these cities. Kaunas is often called the most Lithuanian city of the whole Lithuania.
St Michael Archangel
by bugulma
In the end of Laisves Aleja you can see St Michael Archangel Church. The church was built in 1891-1895 and was Orthodox Cathedral of St Peter and Pavel. The cathedral was a parish church for Kaunas garrison of Russian Empire Army. In 1919 the church became catholic with St Michael Archangel name, in 1940 In Soviet times the church was closed and it was museum. In 1991 the church was open as catholic and a parish church of Lithuanian Army in Kaunas.
Lithuanian Currency: Litas
by HORSCHECK
Although Lithuania joined the European Union (EU) on the 1st of May 2004, they don't have the Euro as currency. Lithuania's currency is still the Litas. 1 Litas is divided into 100 Centai.
The 10 Litas note shows the two pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas and their airplane "Lithuanica" whose wreckage can be seen in the War Museum (Vytauto Didziojo Muziejus).

Architecturos paminklas? What's that?
by matcrazy1
Excuse, it's more Lithuanian than Kaunas local custom tip. I will transfer it to my Lithuania page soon.
There were many information tables, like on my picture, fixed to a wall of old, historical buldings in Kaunas and Lithuania. Architecturos paminklas means architectural monument in Lithuania. Lietuvos respublica = Lithuanian Republic. Those table were always written exclusively in Lithuanian and often were the only source of additionally very poor information on a structure at place. Hmm... they were often not understable for me. At least a year or century marked in arabic were understable. Add here the Lithuanian word "baznycia" which means a church.
