Hi, we are planning to visit Klaipeda and the Spit. So happen it will fall on Sunday when we arrive Klaipeda. Will ferry getting to Spit stops on Sunday?

On Sundays ferries go more often, than working days, because people go to the beach. There are also small boats, they also work for getting you to the other side of lagoon. If you plan to go to Nida, you should use Terminal 1, wich is just in the downtown of Klaipeda, on the river Dane. In Klaipeda we call the Terminal 1 as an "Old Ferry" ("Senas keltas"). When you get to the spit by "old ferry", then you will find busses to Nida, Juodkrante, etc... In summer time the Old ferry takes only passengers. The terminal 2, or "New ferry" is used mainly for cars and bikers, because there is not any other transportation on the other side.

Although the old town of the city is not big I spent there long time enjoying the old houses. The style has a name Fachwerk. add the narrow streets that reminds you the medivial streets you see in cinema or in the pictures and in gallery and that becomes wonderful! Guidebooks say that most Fachwerk houses were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. Some pics of the houses you may find in my travelogue as well.
On Liepu Street you may see wonderful building that is the central post office. The building was built in 1893. The tower was reconstructed in 1987. In the guidebook I read that there are 48 bells that tolls during 30 minutes every Sunday in midday. Unfortunately I wasn't in the city on Sunday :-(
The most important Klaipeda's festival is "Juros svente" (Sea festival). The date varies every year but usually it starts at the end of July or beginning of August - whole weekend dedicated for music, dances, markets, concerts, drinking beer, swimming and sailing.. What else can you want?:)
In 2004 the Sea festival will start on July 23rd! COME!
Just in spring 2010 Golf fields were opened for golfers. I don't play golf, just had one lesson in denmark, but I like the view over the fields from a good restaurant terace. One island of the fields is made as Lithuania map contour.
Klaipeda has a relatively small city centre, therefore there is usually no need to use public transport. Apart from that there are many pedestrianised streets or pathways which are not accessible to cars or public transportation.
So Klaipeda's city centre is best explored on foot. This also offers you the chance to have a look at the smaller sidestreets with its architectural gems.
