Hi all,
Two Irish guys visiting Nida on the 13th and 14th of July. If there happen to be any VT members travelling there on the same days drop me a line and hopefully we can meet up and explore the area.

Hi, Nida is beautiful place, but not so much fun. Come to Klaipeda for nighlife ;-)
oh, comon, Nida ir good fun if you look for chill atmosphere...i can't really promis that i'm gonna be there on those days, but it is highly posible...anyway, you will have great sightseeing and good relax;)
Nida has got a relatively big harbour which is divided into two sections.
Fishing and other commercial boats can be found in the northern part, whereas yachts and pleasure boats lie at anchor in the southern part.
The entrance to the yacht harbour is flanked by two lighthouses. A green white one on the right and a red white one on the left.
Appart from the flowers, there are also mushrooms and berries growing in the forrests. People like wandering around and collecting with buckets. There are also wild boars to be encountered but I was both times on the bus, so I couldn't take a picture. But please don't feed them!
Although Lithuania joined the European Union (EU) on the 1st of May 2004, they don't have the Euro as currency.
Lithuania's currency is still the Litas. 1 Litas is divided into 100 Centai.
You can get your money with your credit or debit card from cash points or just by exchanging your local money at one of the bureaux de change.
The Baltic States are rapidly developing countries, therefore an up to date guidebook is very helpful. I used the Lonely Planet Guide "Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania" which offers information for all budgets on what to see and do, and tips on dining and accomodation.
The Valley of Death is located just south of Nida, between two big dunes. The name came around as a result of a prison camp being built here during the Prusso-French War in 1870-71. The Germans built this camp as a reaction to the French camps in North Africa. Many a French soldier is said to have died in this valley.
