Travel Tips for Palanga

Palanga History III

by ginte

(info from the net)

During the Soviet time the resort area expanded, many departmental rest houses and sanatorium were erected, a number of public eating places were built. An airport was built to serve the resort needs. Palanga was made one of the most significant Baltic seaside resorts in the Soviet Union.

After the restoration of independence, the flood of tourists from the east decreased sharply. However, a long-time experience helped Palanga sanatoriums to reorganize and adjust to the new market demands. Many of them are being revived, acquire modern equipment for treatment and rehabilitation, use progressive methods and work successfully. Every year a few new hotels or other accommodation institutions are established or revived.

Palace of Amber or Palace of Tiskeviciai

by Raimix

It was builded in 1897. The park near this palace was created in 1848 and it is the most beautiful and most expensive park in Lithuania.

The palace has a very big museum of amber found in Lithuania. Entrance costs about 5 lt for adult and cheaper for child.

The Legend: love story and amber

by vysnaite

The legend about amber: there was a mermaid named Jurate (Jura in Lith - the sea),and a fisherman named Kastytis.Jurate was very a beautiful girl living in the palace from amber in the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The God Perkunas (The Thunder) felt in love with her and asked her to play to him every evening. The fishermen felt in love with Jurate , she felt in love with him and didn't show up to play for Perkunas one day. The thunder God got mad,he has let an arrow of lightening into her home and this destroyed her amber palace. So now, every morning after the thunderstorm the waves brings to the shore the remains of the palace from the depths of the sea and reminds about big love of Kastytis and Jurate. That's the legend!

You will find many amber souvenirs on sale every day in Palanga, hangers, rings, earrings, small sculptures, pictures anything you like! If you decide to buy amber and looking for something really professionally made I'd suggest going to the folk craft store. We were looking for a special hanger for one friend and that's where we found the one we really loved.

Palanga - relax at a capital of summer

by Raimix

I had a nice week this summer at this resort. Wooden carved houses, attractions, sea, parks, warm-hearted people and more you can find.

I reccoment to visit official internet page of Palanga .

The postards shows:
1. River near Tiskeviciai palace;
2. Vytautas street and neoghotic church in Palanga.
