Travel Tips for Palanga

Dunes and sea.. favourite sight

by vysnaite

That's my favourite view, when I'm in Palanga.. for reaching the beach you usually have to cross part of the pine-tree forest then to climb dunes hearing the sound of the sea, you hear it close but still can't see it, and then it suddenly appears.. the view of sand and dunes. lovely.. a step up and you see the beach full of people.. not so lovely :P but still nice :)

Birute Hill

by Irinka

Birute hill is located in the south west of the Amber Museum. This hill has a romantic history. It used to be a pagan sanctuary and the observatory of celestial bodies. Today it is a peaceful and quiet place, especially popular among infatuated couples. At the foot of the hill there is a Lurd initiated by earl Tiskevicius. In summertime poetry readings are held here. From the top of Birute hill you can enjoy a broad sea panorama.

The Botanical Garden

by vysnaite

It's a calm part of Palanga. You can reach it by taking a walk on the "alley of love" or from another side, it doesn't matter. The Botanical park was designed by French landscape artist Edward Andre' in the 19th century.
Botanical garden is more of a natural park, in the center of it you will find Tiskevicius estate (amber museum is inside). Statue of Christ in front of the mansion house was replaced in 1993. Gardens and this estate was one of the most famous and the best even among French estate gardens in 19th century. It's a lovely place to take a walk in a beautiful surroundings or to go by bike. There are also pools with swans and ducks, people often feed them, so they are not afraid of people.

A nice summer place - a bit noisy

by pmeurice

"Nice pleasure place"

If you are a woman, try the "moteris plajas" on the north of the city beaches, a beach totally dedicated to women only. You will feel good there. No men and no voyeurs please (be careful, reactions can be strong). Palanga is nice out of the main summer season, too noisy in July and August.
