I stayed at the Artis for a conference in October, 2006 and found the hotel very very clean, comfortable, and safe. The hotel staff was extremely attentive and the breakfast was superb.
The hotel is conveniently located near Old Town, the University, and next door to the Miistry of Defense, but remained relatively quiet. I slept in a room facing a side street that was heavily trafficked, but the room was very quiet.
A wholeheartedly recommend the Artis
The window enclosed restaurant and bar are great for people watching - although I would assme the sights are much better in July thatn they were in cold and windy October. The location of Hotel Artis just couldn't be better! It's right next to the presidential palace, only 5 mins from the Old town and 5 mins from Gedimino Avenue. The interior of the hotel is luxurious and everything was very clean and tidy.
Stayed in a corner room on the second floor and there was a huge double bed, a wardrobe, a desk with a chair and a TV in our room. The bathroom was big with a bath tub and a shower. Towels were spotless and they were changed daily. There was also a balcony in the bathroom which I think was a bit weird.
We had a nice view to the garden of the presidential palace and the room was very bright with three big windows. We stayed there only for three nights but I wouldn't mind staying there longer!
The breakfast was served on the second floor in the hotel restaurant La Traviata and it was excellent. There was a hot and cold buffet available and of course your choice of coffee, tea or juice. It really was enough to make your stomach full!
Artis is a part of the Centrum hotels chain, and they also have another hotel in Vilnius, Ratonda, on Gedimino Avenue.
We reserved sauna and swimming pool on our first night for 1,5 hours. The (Finnish) sauna was a bit small, but for us three girls there was enough space. The swimming pool was quite big and it included a jacuzzi, and despite the chilly water I enjoyed it. We also tried out the steam room and it was nice as well.
