Quiet little guest house at Gate of Dawn

Nice and quiet little guest house in the heart of the old town. As a former monastry, Domus Maria offers a peaceful accommodation where you can rest after wandering in the old town or shopping at Gedimino Street. Twin room was quite small, but very clean and tidy. There was WC and shower and TV in the room. There's no a/c, but for us it wasn't a problem. There wasn't a minibar, but we didn't miss that either. The staff was very friendly and spoke good English, which can't be said about all other personnel in restaurants/shops. Only downside was the poor breakfast. There was some bread (not very fresh) and toast, cheese and cold meat, some sausages and yoghurts and coffee and tea from a machine. The "hot" water for tea was lukewarm, and my friend disliked the coffee. So, as much as I liked the guest house itself, I would recommend eating breakfast somewhere else.

Great Bargain in Old Town

Domus Maria is a lovely modest hotel located right by the Gates of Dawn, right next to St Teresa's church, and just down the street from Town Hall. The beds are small but comfortable. The staff is very helpful and courteous.

Unique Quality: Domus Maria has a lovely ecclesiastical setting and a great location--near the bus and train stations.

Quite and affordable choice in centrum

by Yiannis2000 about Domus Maria

I have found this small hotel, an old monastery next to ... many churches, Gate of Dawn, as a pleasant and quite place in the centre and very very close to the bus and railway stations. Also may supermarkets and a local market for local people, no tourist feel, are located just outside the Gate.

Looking for a late night on Tuesday night

by littlebush

Hi
I arrive in Vilnius around midnight on a Tuesday night (late 14th october, early 15th) and have to catch the train again at 6am.

Where can i dump my bag and then go for a few beers for 6 hours?

I've been to Vilnius before for just a day and night but it seemed pretty quiet at night - can i find anywhere open til 6am?
And anyone wanna meet up..?

Thanks
Dave

Im almost sure there is locker service in the train station....

Regarding places to go on Tuesday night, probably Prospekto pub on Gedimino prospect close to Cathedral will be crowded as its Erasmus night on Tuesdays. May be cover charge 3 or 5 euros though, but drinks not so expensive.

There is a locker facility in the train station. However, we tried to find one for a friend about a month ago but it was full.

Cili Pizza on Didzjoi 5 is a nice and not too expensive Pizza place open until 3am. It will take you about 15 minutes to walk there from the train station. After 3am, you may find a bar open.

Travel Tips for Vilnius

Maybe it's a Local Custom, maybe not.

This is to be my second "REAL" Lithuanian meal. Now, I don't know if this was a joke on me, but I actually ate this famous dish of "Smoked Pig ear w/ hard-white beans." This meal is served with beer. Why? I think it's because if you get drunk enough, you won't remember what your eating ;o)).
It wasn't so bad really until I took my glasses off and noticed the fine hair on the ear, no wonder it tickled going down. I then didn't want to turn it over for fear of possibly finding wax on the other side. JUST KIDDING GIRLS, IT WAS "MMMMMM".

They were fishing

by matcrazy1

Haha, I was a little bit surprised when I noticed these three fishermen trying to catch fish (succesfully, as I noticed) in Neris River. Hmm... it was in the same downtown/centre of quite large city - on southern bank of the river just by the Gediminas Hill (at Arsenalo gatve = street).

Did it prove that they take care about clear waters a lot? Maybe, although I am not sure.
