Budget Accommodation

by Poling

Have went through a lot of hostels, a private room for two costs at least 50euro. I believe the same price is good enough to stay in a hotel as well? Any hotel/hostel around the price could you recommend? The euro is 20% higher than the time I started planning for this trip.  I am okay with mix-dorm but my friend has never done that. Thanks.

well, you didn't tell us, which city would you like to visit?

Re: Budget Accommodation

by brrr

lithuaniandiamond, Poling is posting in VILNIUS forum, so it's about Vilnius, I guess.
How about "Filaretai"? - http://www.lithuanianhostels.org/vilnius/filaretai/?id=4&lang=_lt
Room for two - 50Lt since 1st of May (before May - 44Lt).

Re: Budget Accommodation

by Poling

For Filaretai, the booking condition requests a hostel membership card? What if I am not a member?

Re: Budget Accommodation

by brrr

??? Have no idea. You can ask them at the comments section.
And how about "A Hostel"? Up to 18 Euro for 1 night, http://www.ahostel.lt/
, location is much better, especially if you come in the evening. It's on Stepono street No 15, within 7 min walk from the bus station or 10 min walk from the train station. I guess, they have a building even closer, at Sodu str. 17, next to Cili Pica pizzeria on the corner, you'll see it in any case, it's within 3 min walk from the bus station same direction.
And Filaretai is next to the Old Town, but on the opposite side if you're going from the bus/train station. Not very far, but rather "secret" spot, sort of "pocket", I haven't been in that area during all my life.

Thanks. A Hostel looks cool!
They don't have a price list, wonder all room cost the same (just 9euro!).
Have sent an mail to them. Thanks a lot.

This is privat hotel, I have stayed there few times. The owners are artists, so interior is nice there. The "small" double room there costs 55 Euro. Very nice breakfasts. Location is in Antakalnis, few steps from Petras and Povilas church.
I also recomend to check place in www.litinterp.lt
These places are clean and good.
have a nice stay ;-)

Travel Tips for Vilnius

Whip it out of your pocket

by mrdarius

Vilnius in Your Pocket. There is little more you need when travelling around Vilnius or any number of other countries in the region. Its complete, succinct, and unforgivingly truthful and funny pages are a must-have. It is very up-to-date, as it is published once a month.

Make sure the first thing you do is pick one up. There are 'in your pocket' guides for every country and many cities in Eastern and Central Europe. Luckily you don't need to travel to these countries before reading up on them, as the guides are available online at: www.inyourpocket.com

Three Crosses Hill

by bugulma

Legend says that the monks who came in XIV century to converse Lithuania to Christianity were burned on the hill. In 1916 the monument was built. In 1950 in Soviet times the monument was broken. The monument was rebuilt in 1989. The hill is the highest point of the city and it is worth climbing up to enjoy the city views.

Talking lithuanian

by Dany_Kulta

The lithuanian language is the older one in Europe !!! Close to sanscrit.... It's useful to know at least some important words.... Cheers= Is veikata, I like you=Tu man patinki, hello=labas, I love you=As tave myliu,...etc.... ----- I find people specially open in this country !!! Some people were saying hello to me just because they saw me in another disco during my last hollidays !!!Really a great nation! In Geneva people are really colder than that..from far...

Lithuanian state emblem

by matcrazy1

Excuse, it's more Lithuanian than Vilnius tip. I will transfer it to my Lithuania page soon.

This white knight with a rised sword kept in his hand is Lithuania state emblem since 1366. It's called the Vytis in Lithuanian language (the White Knight) and I could find it in many flags, buildings and... Lithuanian souvernirs. This one on my picture was put on attica of southern facade of the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius.

The Vytis means "Pogon" in Polish language and it's present in Poland till now. For example it is a name of popular football team: Pogon Szczecin. Well, the two cultures Polish and Lithuanian influenced one each other a lot in the past.

More about Vitys: follow the link below, please.

From Saulene:
Vytis means exactly the Pogon in Lithuanian, not the White Knight (if you thought so).

Similar to... my hometown

by matcrazy1

This is view over typical suburb of Vilnius on my picture taken from the top of the Gediminas Tower. I could see never ending huge apartment buildings there.

Excuse, it's not local custom of Vilnius only. The similar buildings housed a lot of usually very small and poor quality flats/apartments are common in over half of our globe where former Soviet Union ruled. If any doubts, take a look at my hometown, Tychy, Poland here. Can you see similarities ? :-(((
