My itinerary in Vilnius.
by Askla
My tips follows the itinerary I used to see as much as possible in Vilnius during the limited time I had to spend on this beautiful town. I started from the hotel and went all the way to the Gediminas Tower, taking another way back to the hotel again.
Okey, I admit there are often many tips about churches on my pages but I often find them very interesting and beautiful from an architectural as well as a historical point of view. But I did not visit all the 65 churches there are said to be in Vilnius!!
The 'Republic' of Uzupis
by evaanna
As you are about to cross one of the three bridges on the Vilnele, you will notice this sign 'Uzupio Res Publica'. The republic was proclaimed by the local artists in 1997. Every year on April Fool's Day the inhabitants celebrate their 'Independence Day' marching in a grand parade. Like all self-respecting republics, the Republic of Uzupis has its own constitution inscribed in marble on a plaque in Paupio St. Among its provisions you can find the following:
Everybody has the right to live by the River Vilnele while the Vilnele has the right to flow by everyone', Everyone has the right to die but it is not his obligation', 'Everyone has the right to be idle', 'Everyone has the right to love', 'Everyone has the right to be not loved but not necessarily','A dog has the right to be a dog', 'Everyone has the right not to be distinguished and famous'. I must say I like them a lot, don't you?
Gedimino Prospektas

The central street of the city is Gedimino Prospektas that is full with restaurants, nightclubs and shops. It is from Cathedral Square to the river bridge on the other side. Along the street you may see some nice architecture of the houses.
How not too look like a tourist in VILNIUS Part 2
by Sexy_European
This time I want to talk about the BEHAVIOR of the tourist. This is a biggie, bigger than clothing. If you look like you're a real hard core traveler, with the whole gear and everything, you're putting yourself in vulnerable position. HELLO, what the hell are you thinking??????
THe DONT'S in Vilnius
1. Don't look like a ritch idiot tourist with your high-tech cameras and techmnology out. They will get stolen
2 Don' t wear backpacks to the city. (Unless you're a 10 year old kid!!!) SO Not Lithuanian!
3. Do not take out your mile long map of Vilnius in the middle of the street, do this at the hotel, restaurant etc.. It you're lost better ask people.
4. Don't wear your camera on a strap on a chest, (locals would never wear cameras like this!!!!)
5. Do not start arguing or shouting in your language to the locals for whatever reason (you will get strange looks, be ignored and get nowhere, remember you represent your country)
6. Don't look lost. Try to blend in. If you get lost ask for directions.
They prayed a lot
by matcrazy1
I was a little bit surpriced when I saw interiors of many churches full of prayers although it was a business day. Afternoon holy masses were attended by many, mainly but not the only older locals. I think that religion helped many locals to survive hard times of lack of freedom, repressions and poverty in not so old past.
Older women usually put headscarfs over their heads in churches. It's strange but I didn't see them walking along streets but yes, many times inside churches.
