I am planning to arrive at the Vilnius airport on Thursday, 9 July at 23:00. What would be the least expensive way to get to the center of the city and what should I expect to pay?

Hi,
I am afraid you will have to take taxi.
Last bus No 1 leaves from airport at 22:23, No 2 at 22:46.
Last train leaves around 19:45.
And I would spend that night in the hotel next to the airport.
and if you take the room in skrydis hotel at airport- take a renovated (new)one. Some rooms are in terrible conditions.
Hi,
of course, the cheapest way is to walk by foot, that will take about one, one and half hour without luggage... bus will cost you appr. 0,2-0,5 Eur, taxi will cost from 5 to 10 EUR. I would suggest to use an official taxi carrier Martonas and no way to accept any offer from a man with a red face talking russian from unknown taxi company... they can ask you to pay up to 20 EUR...
Absolutely sure that you will survive... if there will be any problems just use your mobile and book a car. Info desk in airport will help you and you can get all the assistance from there, taxi booking as well.
Have a nice trip!
How much is the average taxi fare per KM in Vilnius. Is it better to take a bus to the centre or a taxi.. And would apprechiate alot if someone gives a number to the taxi service.
Also a question if anyone have stayed at the SKRYDIS hotel???? Would like to get some information about that....
Usually you pay about 20 - 30 LITAS from the suburbs to the center. I would watch out for those yellow minibuses. You pay only 2 LITAS for them and they drive you to every important places in the center ;-)
Hi,
By western standards, taxi rates in Vilnius are fairly reasonable. however, beware of some cabbies: the meter has 3 or 4 settings and they choose which to give you. I think 1 is cheapest and 4 is highest. Always say you are a student and be nice, that will usually get you the lower rate. Also, if you call them by phone to pick you up it ssems to be cheaper too. As far as the bus choices, my experience has been that they are very affordable, 1 or 2 Litas, depending on the operator. The mini-buses are OK and faster than the big red ones. For me, the hard part when riding the bus, was the difficulty in finding out schedules and routes; everyone knew which bus to take to and from their home/work and not much else...
as a standard, taxis will always charge more (up to double) if you hail them in the streets. always call for cabs. i like to use martonas (1422 - simple number). they all wear uniforms and most of the cabs have seatbelts.
depending how far out you're coming from will set you costs...a ride from the center of lazdynai to the center of old town should run 10-15 litas.
trolleybusses are super cheap but carry B-O to the max. you can get tickets at any kiosk and they run anywhere you need to go.
i also would suggest checking out the abovementioned mikrobusses. they are cheap and fast and go everywhere. the only problem is knowing where they go.
Thanks to all who took time to write down few lines! I apprechiate the information very much and will find out with what I want to ride around in Vilnius :)
K
if you are wanting to get around vilnius - call 1446 on your mobile... it is the best value taxi in vilnius (the company's name is ekipazas). the rate if you call is 1lita/km. this is super cheap.
also, they speak english and russian.
they will take you from the airport to the center for about 10 litas.
