Travel Tips for Beaufort

Day Hike in Beaufort

by dln6874

The trip to Luxembourg started off in the Hague, Netherlands, where I was staying at the time. I made plans to meet a friend in Brussels, and then drive together with him to Luxembourg the next day. Luck would have it, there was a strike on the day I was supposed to travel to Brussels, so I had to get picked up by my friend at the border between Holland and Belgium. Anyways, so I stayed the night at my friend's, and we drove 3 hours to beautiful Luxembourgh. The drive was like 3 hours, during which time I subjected my poor friend to bad music and bad singing. There was also some serious fog in the morning so we could not actually enjoy the beutiful view much. But the fog was cool.

Once in Beaufort, we grabbed sandwiches at a local deli for lunch, and then started off on what was supposed to like a 4-5 hour hike. It started off in a nice area with river, forest, rock formations, etc. However, the trails started leading to various places and poor sign postings and bad maps caused us to be somewhat lost here and there. We spent a good deal of time staring at the map and back tracking, so it ended up being like a six hour walk (it wasn't really a hike hike).

In the evening, we went to a near by town slightly bigger than Beaufort, for dinner and desert. There didn't seem to be much else to do in these parts of the country. We stayed in a Youth Hostel, but not too many people were staying there, and there wasn't much to do there either. So we played cards for a bit and then called it a night.

During the summer the castle is illuminated.

We did not visit it for we wanted to get a good look at the castle in Vianden.
