Reaching Luxembourg and must see for 4-5 hours

by vickss

Hi!

I am planning to do a day trip of Luxembourg later this month.
Actually I have a latenight flight from Frankfurt Hahn and thot it might be a nice idea to do a day trip arriving at Lux around noon for abt 5 hours to see places.
1. Any idea if the buses from Hahn to Lux is crowded and one needs to book in advance for the journey? Also the costs for a return trip in the same day..One operator says it charges $22 per person one way by bus.. is it that expensive?
2. The absolute must sees and if they are connected by some tourist bus.. where to find this bus and how much for a half day trip?

Better to book the bus, not because it is crowded, the opposite in fact, but if they do not have a boking by anyone as hapens alot they do not always turn up.
while i would recommend more time, if 5 hrs is all you have, the best to do is just atke a walk around teh grund see the old batiments its all easy to see and spectacular. get some good lunch in too, excellent resaturants with good luncht time specials all over the city

Travel Tips for Luxembourg

A few thoughts

by acemj

Luxembourg City is no doubt situated in a dramatic physical setting. There are some interesting architectural highlights and some charming streets and hidden spots. You can find good accommodations and decent food and even some good drinking holes. However, I felt that there was something missing here. Maybe it was a clearly identifiable local culture and maybe it was just a certain excitement that you feel in other places. Whatever the case may be, I enjoyed my visit here, but was ready to leave the next day and move on to a more energetic scene.

Guided tour

by Imbi

Luxembourg tourist office organises guided walk during summer, these tours are operated in different languages so every one is happy. If you have short time to explore city then guide tour would be a best option.

people and language

by el_ruso

Luxembourg has an official language, Letzeburguish. It sounds a lot like German. Also virtually everyone speaks French, and most street and site names are in French. In my experience most people understand English as well. Additionally, there are a lot of Italians who live here, and this is reflected in many Italian restaurants everywhere.

Maybe it's the most peculiar...

Maybe it's the most peculiar language in the world: Letzenbourgs. This mixture of German, French and Dutch (even some English words found there way into it lately) is very difficult to follow for either one of these nationalities (as they constantly have to switch their 'lingual button' in the brain). Anyway, proove of being on a mayor junction in Europe.

Church of St. Peter and Paul

by HORSCHECK

One afternoon we visited the Notre Dame cemetery to look for the grave of Wilhelm Voigt who became famous for the Captain of Köpenick (Hauptmann von Köpenick).

Unfortunately, we didn't find the grave on the large cemetery, but on leaving the ground we spotted the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Peter and Paul with its one golden and four blue domes. The Church belongs to the occidental diocese of Europe and is probably an unusual sight in Luxembourg

Directions:
The Church of St. Peter and Paul can be found just south of the Notre Dame cemetery.

Address: Church of St. Peter and Paul, 10 Rue J. P. Probst, 2352 Luxembourg
