Restaurant

by aterola

Hello,
this year we decided to skip Christmas party in our city and to have two days trip abroad with my colleagues. 8 of December we will be in Luxembourg. Please, help me to find some restaurant, where 30 people at once can have late lunch or pub or bar, where we can have a meeting point for glass of wine after walking in the city? We don't eat fast food, so I mean some place with atmosphere ;-)
Thank you,
Letute

Re: Restaurant

I know that this is a different suggestion and most probably the thing you are not after if you want to be in Luxembourg City, walk around etc. at the same time. Otherwise this would be great as I can see that you like some class, style and athmosphere.

We ended up (a rental car needed) to a small/tiny village called Welsceid. There is a small hotel (Reuter), and a restaurant (Restaurant Am Waardkall) which has been nominated the Chain des Rotisseurs so the food is perfect. There is space for 30 people, but reservations must be made beforehand. It is nice looking, quiet feeling, candles on the table.

But there is nothing else to do, if you want, in the village, it is dead.

But if you have time; you can see some great views like the castle of Vianden. There are several castles in the area.

Travel Tips for Luxembourg

Fill 'er up

by Dabs

It's no secret that gas is expensive in most of Europe, even more so than the shockingly high prices that Americans have been seeing this summer. If you do cross the border into Luxembourg, make you stop and fill up your tank before you leave, unleaded gas was 30-40 cents cheaper per liter than right across the border in Belgium. And the stations are conveniently located right before you cross the border, three or four in a row.

Never ! Never !

Never mistaken a Luxemburger (Letzemburger) person as a German one.

Under consttruction

Most of times, they speak both French, German and... luxemburgish (which is not German, right ?) The clean aspect of the streets; the Lux language, their accent while speaking French... all of that reminds me Germany.

Beer of Luxembourg

by HORSCHECK

Luxembourg is home to about 7 beer breweries. When I was in Luxembourg I tried a few local beers.

The largest brewery is Diekirch which merged with Mousel in 1999 and nowadays belongs to the Interbrew empire.

The Diekirch brewery was founded in 1871. Their lager kind of beer I drank tasted about average.

Another local beer brand you will come across quite often in Luxembourg is Bofferding. It is brewerd in an independent brewery called "Brasserie Nationale" which is located in Bascharage.

They have pils, lager (also unfiltered) and a dark beer on offer. I tried their lager pils which in my opinion tasted slightly better than the Diekirch beer.

Herbal gardens

by Skipka

When you will cruise around the Wenzel, don't forget to see ~Herbal gardens~ right under the Casemates next to the Neumuenster. However, it is a tradition for centuries already to grow up the herbs for medicinal and other uses here. When in summer everything is in blossom and picture from the upstairs is amazing. But walking nearby this place you will discover more ways how to see Grund by yourself and in more romantic way.

St Michael Church

by Imbi

Saint Michael's Church
St Michael Church is one of the oldest buildings in city. The history of this church goes back one thousand year and during all those years it was built, renovated, destroyed and reconstructed many times. It was recently refurbished and one can see the reflections of Gothic and Baroque architecture.
