First of all I would contact the hotel. They have a free shuttle service to the central city twice daily, so perhaps you could use this. On their website they write that this services also operates on request, so I am rather sure they can pick you up.
I came to luxembourg by hitchhike from strasbourg;on my way back,I was taken by a rich businessman in his big mercedes,but he was arrested at the french border,haha,because ,as you know,anyone with money in france always tries to put his money elsewhere.
I arrived to Carling(moselle),but then I had to walk to Sarreguemines,then I finished by train back to strasbourg
Of course, you have to visit Luxembourg-City. This old fortress cannot be seen in a single day, even if it is small enough. One of the important points: It is really a green town. Don't forget to take a walk through one of the parcs in the middle of the City. I love the North of this country with is beautiful nature that someone called 'little Canada'.
Grand Duchess Charlotte ruled in years 1919-1964 and most of all she was very popular because her will and deeds during the WW II impressed her people. I think that if ruler is good or bad should be seen in hard time and Grand Duchess Charlotte was successful for sure. In 1990 was inaugurated a great fountain at Clairefontaine Square (right behind the Cathedral) and the sculpture is the work of Jean Cardot. Pity that Grand Duchess Charlotte didn't see this inauguration. She died in 1985 but Luxembourgers have her in their hearts and on the square 2.7 m tall.
The colours of the Flag of Luxembourg have first been branded around 1830 during the Belgian Revolution. They were probably adopted from the shield of the Province of Limbourg, the only difference was the background which was changed into silver with blue stripes.
It took until June 23, 1972 before a law was passed regulating the flag of Luxembourg. The same law also prescribed ensign and roundel for aircraft and ships registered in Luxembourg.
One important clarification brought by this law was that the colour blue was defined as being a very bright blue, in contrast to the flag of the Netherlands
The Luxembourg Stock Exchange has been in existence since 1927, and there are a lot of securiities from a large number of regions traded. It is now part of the Euronext group of exchanges. It is located on the avenue de la Porte-Neuve, with the entrance surrounded by a shopping mall.
