More about Novotel Luxembourg Centre

reliable, convenient

by iaint about Novotel Luxembourg Kirchberg

Stayed several times. First it was a Pullman, then a Sofitel, now a Novotel.

It is right at the EU institution complex, so ideal if your business is at the ECJ (for example) but a bit out of town if you're going sightseeing in the city. It is a pleasant walk into town, however.

Reliable, comfortable. Location!

Frankfurt - Luxembourg by train

by meltyan

Hi,

Does anyone know how much is the return train ticket from Frankfurt to Luxembourg ? I have tried bahn.de but the price is not available. And the europass is too expensive.

Thanks a lot!
Happy Traveling!

Is there a bus included in your travel? Then you can't find it on bahn.de. You can find the train part of your journey and then you will have to find the bus fare from the bus company.

For trains (except TGV) you can find the fares on bahn.de. Normal one-way fare is EUR 59.40. Discounted tickets are available from EUR 19 when booked well in advance of your travel (max 89 days).

will give you a return fare (as long as the bus is not involved) if you choose the return train time.

One-way is from around 54 euro, return from around 107. I don't think return tickets are any cheaper (although I may be awrong about this).

I just did a search on bahn.de from the Main train station in Frankfurt to the Luxembourg Gare stop. There was a listing for the Europa-Special-Luxembourg for both 19 Euro, and 29 Euro, (one way). Gary

Yes.....those cheap fares are excellent value. They are limited (in both train day/time and in numbers) so you need to book online as soon as you see one which suits. The drawback is that you must use them on the train you have booked (and I am not sure how it works if you miss that train...I think you then have to pay all the normal fare, or possibly just the extra).

The fares I gave are the standard ones, of course.

I forgot to mention, the fare will not be available on all trains. There will be a limited number of seats available on trains that do offer the fare. Probably most importantly, your ticket is only good for that specific train. Gary

@leics

What happens if you miss the train you booked is quite simple:
- If it's your own fold (you turned up to late) you will have to pay the price difference between your "special" and the normal price to the conductor.
- If it's the railway's fault: No problem. You can travel on the first train available.

KVB:

Thank you for clarifying. I expected as much (it is the same in the UK) but was not absolutely certain.

Travel Tips for Luxembourg

Explore the casemates. ...

by DrewV

Explore the casemates. Luxembourg was once called the Gibraltar of the North, and by exploring these fortifications beneath the city, you begin to see why. Most of the immense citadel was destroyed as a prerequisite for Luxembourgois independence in 1815. But what's remaining is still certainly formidable and fun to explore, as Marguerite and Brigitta demonstrate.

The gate

by ATLC

The fortress gate was built in 1735. Interestingly, when we entered Luxembourg by car and tried to find the youth hostel, we took a wrong turn and ended up in a tunnel. I now realise that the tunnel went all the way under the ancient quarters of the fortress!

Cheap petrol in Luxembourg

by HORSCHECK

Although life in Luxembourg is slightly more expensive than in the surrounding countries, it is well known that petrol is relatively cheap in Luxembourg. Petrol prices are about 20 % lower than in Belgium, France or Germany.

This is due to differences in petrol tax and causes a large number of huge petrol stations on the Luxembourg side of each border.

So if you visit Luxembourg by car, don't forget to fill your tank with cheap petrol.

Vianden

by el_ruso

Vianden is a small mountain town to the North of Luxembourg near the border with Germany. It has a magnificent castle above the town with cobblestoned streets underneath. Unfortunately when we got here it was already dark and raining, but we still really enjoyed the views. I hope to return and spend here more time.

It was built in the XI-XII centuries on the site of the older Roman fort. The castle fell into ruin and was abandoned until it was completely restored by the state in late 1970's. During summer there is a chairlift to the top.
