Probably the best balance betwen design/comfort/location around the capital city of the Grand Duchy.
Basic hotel in old building but clean. 45 euro single. This hotel is directly opposite the rail station.
Theres only one hostel in town and to be honest it feels like a hotel!
Its huge too and has pretty much everything you need.
I myself, prefer a hostel to be a little rough around the edges with character but this one is spotless and feels like any other YHA, a little bit regimental with not much character.
Having said that though, it really does have everything you need, except a kitchen if you want to self cater, but the restaurant there is very well priced and the food is very very good.
Rooms are big and it has internet and games room.
It cost around 20 euros for a dorm bed.
Its located about a 5min walk from the outskirts of what id call the city, about 10min to the city centre, and about a 25min walk to the train station.
I can't say that I truly discovered this hotel myself. This honour belongs, as it often does, to another poster at VT, but this hotel recommendation deserves to be mentioned a few more times here as it is by far the cheapest hotel in Luxembourg.
It is situated just across from the central railway station. The rooms are very basic, but clean. The Italian restaurant and pizzeria that is part of the hotel complex on the other hand is absolutely fantastic and definitely deserves a visit for a meal. Amazingly enough breakfast is included in those rates!
The hotel only has a very small number of rooms. They don’t have a website and can generally only be contacted by phone. The staff is friendly and advance booking is of course required if you don’t want to miss out on this truly terrific deal.
Affordable housing for Students and EU Interns in Luxembourg City. This housing requires proof of your student, or intern, status and has an application process. It is much cheaper than many of the other housing options in Luxembourg City. NOTE: If you type webplaza.pt.lu/~wfs in the "search" block of your search engine, you can click "translate this page " when the link listing appears. I know that it will translate the page from its original French text to at least English and German.
Only stayed once. However, like all Ibis places it is budget quality, but clean, comfortable, reliable and not so expensive.
I seem to remember it was not quite as easy to get to/from the airport as I expected, even tho' its just across the road.
Location; value for money
Stayed several times. First it was a Pullman, then a Sofitel, now a Novotel.
It is right at the EU institution complex, so ideal if your business is at the ECJ (for example) but a bit out of town if you're going sightseeing in the city. It is a pleasant walk into town, however.

The hotel was chosen on price, location & reviews. It is about 1km from the city centre & it faces the railway station. The hotel has 35 rooms & a buffet breakfast. It was clean & tidy, ok for a short stay.
One of many cute, little hotels in Luxembourg, decorated with flowers, cheerful facade, it was the cutest one for me in Vianden. Above it you can see the castle of Vianden.
In Luxembourg there are hotels in the mid and many in the top category.
There are not much hotels in lower categories.
Perhabs it is recommandable to stay in the neigbouring countries if you want this option.
I recommend Etap hotels.
Etap hotels have the same standard everywhere in the world.
You know what you get a bed to sleep in a clean room for low price.
They have a bed for two persons down and one person can sleep up.
There is a small TV in each room with a few programms.
The toilet and bath is on the room. After using it is cleaned with much chemistry.
The breakfast is served in the morning for an additional payment.
It is good if you have not much time. But don't expect to much.
Tip: You can use the rooms with three persons. There is not much staff around. They don't registrate which person sleep in which room. If one person waits outside while the others check in it is absolutely no problem to stay with three persons.
Q: Best way to fly or take train into Lux from middle east? "We live in Saudi Arabia and typically fly out of Bahrain to go home in Canada/USA. Tickets to Lux look really expensive! Is..."
A: "Frankfurt and Brussels come to mind as potentially larger sites that would get you into the area. They are not right next door, but not all that far away either..."
