St. Rita Street, Sliema: Holiday Apartments

The holiday apartment options in Malta seem to offer much better value for money than the hotels. We rented one for a week that was better than any hotel you could book for the same price. Just 50 euros a night for a 55m2 apartment that was as pleasant as an 80 euro hotel room with half the room.

We booked with a guy called Graham Busuttil, who's family run company is responsible for numerous apartments across Malta. They are considered experts in the field and I even saw his brother being interviewed on Malta's main channel. I had no idea what they were talking about though.

We were very pleased with the apartment. It's nicely decorated, well equipped, comfortable, clean and with a little balcony. There's also a roof terrace above, which you only share with one other apartment. We seemed to have the terrace to ourselves in December, which was nice. The only significant bad thing about the place was that it was cold in winter - it has wonderful high ceilings but these kinds of buildings are difficult to heat with (air-con) wall heater high up because hot air rises. But this is typical of Maltese apartments, I believe, and nothing terribly important.

The location is absolutely perfect, just a few hundred meters from the promenade, the buses, the water taxis and the harbour tours. Graham, was also very easy to deal with. We never met in person, everything was sorted out via email and with the driver who Graham arranged to drive us to and from the airport. It was all very simple and quick, allowing us to get on with our holiday without a worry.

(Sorry I only have pictures with Oskar in them)

Castille Hotel: Location, location, location

Central location in Valletta in old palazzo. Room interiors are old, but comfortable. Bathroom with shower. Clean, but well used. Good basic buffet breakfast.
Staff: very friendly, helpful and competent.

Unique Quality: Optimum location to explore Valletta on foot. For bus trips around Malta it is only a few minutes walk to Floriana, the main bus station. Fantastic view over Great Harbour from roof-top restaurant.

Bed and breakfast gozo: Accommodation at Qala, Gozo, Malta

Julie, the "manager" of the bb is a wonderful woman!
the house is great, very cosy, very familiar. It's perfect to chill out, with its swimming pool, its quitness, and the hondok bay at 10 minutes walking distance.

They have a dog, called scoop, who liked to lick the pot planys! So funny!

There is a nice little square in front of the bb, with restaurants.

Unique Quality: Incredible swimming pool and breakfast!

Relax Inn Hotel, Halel street, Bugibba, Malta: Beware of this sub -standard Hotel

Was booked "All-inclusive" for 7 nights in Relax Inn, July 2009. The Hotel was filthy and lacking all basic amenities normally enjoyed in an All-Inclusive Hotel.

I would recommend everyone to give this establishment a wide berth, it is probably cheap but a pig sty would probably be more comfortable.

The lunch menu was not even big enough to be a snack menu, with only sandwiches or toasties available.

We were lucky to find other accommodation nearby and did not have to stay the night

Unique Quality: Swimming pool is little more than a paddling pool with severely broken steps to get into it. A real danger area.

Hotel Juliani: Great Boutique Hotel St Julians Bay

Great Location is St Julians Bay. The hotel is situated at the end of the bay overlooking the whole bay. The rooms are large and bright with chic design and an open feel. I was made to feel very welcome and was looked after during my stay from beginning to end.

Unique Quality: The hotel has a pool on the roof top which has great views of the Spinola Bay area. The only problem was the lounger area is not too well positioned to get the sun in the late afternoon however my visit was in October so may be better in summer when sun is higher!

Le Méridien St. Julians: Le Méridien St. Julians Hotel & Spa

I stayed there with my mother for one week. The hotel and its rooms are very nice and clean and the staff is very friendly. The large spa is the perfect place to be when it is raining.

Milano due Hotel: Affordable with good location

It was off high season, so prices were reasonable. We rented a double room (bookied via their website) with side sea view for 32€ per room per night . The room located on the 3rd floor was really spacious with ensuite bathroom. Only complaint was that the beds were veeeeeery soft if you're not used to such kind of matresses.
Breakfast included in the price was nice and served at the 7th floor having nice views over Valetta and the bay (though Sliema itself is not so picteresque).
The hotel is located in Sliema's Strand with easy access to Valetta by bus (0.5€). The area had great views but if you ask me I would have chosen to stay in Paceville (St.Julian's area) which has more dining options and is more lively at night.

Le Meridian St Julians: Balutta Bay view

Large 5 star hotel apparently.
Impressive lobby etc and room was fairly nice too, however...
The tiny roof top pool was overun by rowdy teenages.
The beach outside the hotel is tiny (and yes it really is small) but this was still far more pleasant than the hotel pool which overlooks the beach by 12 floors+
As for the service.. we had to wait an hour for the room when we arrived at 3:30pm, the minibar didnt open, room service never got our orders correct, the pay per view channels were more hassle than they were worth and the receptionists wernt exactly helpfull, though a word with the duty manager did resolve most issues.
In summary pleasant but dont be fooled by the 5 star rating.

Unique Quality: Good views if you look out over Balutta Bay.
Nice size room.
Small pool.
Poor service.
