Mellieha church is a great landscape spot, located on the hill, so is seen from many places. At the time we were there it was closed, so we couldn't get in. But we enjoyed the exterior architecture.

how much would I expect to pay for a taxi from the Airport to Mellieha bay

Hi,
We stayed in Bugibba last year booked the taxi through www.travelrepublick.co.uk.
The taxi company was www.williamsgarage.com which is based in bugibba.
The service was very good and you can ask or book online for a price.
Mellieha village as a bit of character I have stayed there three times.

We were just there in Mellieha Bay for a total of 10
days, and taxi fare from the airport to Mellieha Bay
will run approx. 25 - 30 euro each way .... BUT you
can contact Williams Garage, and it will only cost
you 18 euro one way for up to 4 people.

Travel Tips for Mellieha
Children playground and panorama
Just behind the church there is a small square with children playground, small caffe and some benches for to enjoy wonderful panoramic views. It is a nice place to spend some time for resting or looking at the views around.
Prayers to the Virgin Mary
On the walls that are surrounding the beautiful small square at the entrance to the sanctuary, are placed marble plaques with prayers to the Madonna of Mellieha.
The prayers are in different languages, each plaque holding the relative flag.
Ex-votos in the Sanctuary Cave
Beside the old decorations, the entrance room to the sanctuary has the walls covered many ex-votos.
These ex-votos, a real confirmation of the sanctuary's importance, stand on the walls as evidences of the blessings received by the pilgrims who came here to pray to the Madonna and Child icon.
The cave particularity
Just entering the cave chapel your attention is definitely captured by the famous Madonna and Child icon.
But while looking at the altar from the back of the chapel I had the impression that something was "wrong" with it.
Going closer I have noticed that the icon, the main work of art, it was not placed on the axis of the chapel, but 40-45% to the left of it, thus the altar gives you the impression of not belonging to the rest of the chapel.
