Nice hotel
by TripAdvisor Member moysy1
The pergola club hotel is very nice, our room was clean and I quite enjoyed finding my way around it. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the pool areas were good, and the location was fab.The only downside was our chambermaid. Our room was cleaned the first day, the second and third she just burst into our room at 8 in the morning. Nearly caught us inflagrante!. Our room was only cleaned(bed made) once after that. I put in a request for tea and coffee making facilities which I was charged for, but they never materialised. While we were there a huge party of European teenages learning English booked in. I was so glad not to have a room around the top pool!. No I am not a whinging Pom, these were just kids having a good time and let loose from home. Wish I had done it at their age.
The il Mitha(sp) the windmill at the top of the road leading into Millieha is a fantastic place to eat, 5 stars. Be sure to book though. You must try the rabbit.
Do not stay at this hotel if you have any physical disability. I had an accident and could not be stretchered out. The paramedics had to get me into a very small wheelchair, and the lift was only just big enough to take me and a paramedic. Would stay at this hotel again because of the location and staff.
If you wany a quick way down to the beach, turn right at the dive shop and you will come to a set of steps which knock off the hairpin bed. Much quicker.
A Real Treat For My Birthday

My Girlfriend had everything booked and as we arrived at the Pergola we were greeted by a charming male manager at the reception. He showed us the way to our room and explained to us all the Hotel facilities, including of course the Spa and the Sauna. Everything was explained in detail and we were handled an attractive pamphlet that clearly described all the facilities around. The room was exceptional. It was very clean and well equiped with TV etc and airconditioning. The room depicted a magnifiscent view of the Mellieha Parish Church. The weather was just fine and we enjoyed the outside pool and of coarse we took the oppurtunity to walk around the village. Everything is so close to the hotel so we must say that location wise, its just perfect!
We visited the hotel's restaurant on different occasions. Food was fine and the service complimented each detail. I must say that all staff delivered a perfect service and with a smile :)
I strongly recommend Pergola Club Hotel & Spa if you are planning to visit Malta! Me and my girlfriend enjoyed some of our best times at Pergola !
We liked the Pergola

We have enjoyed a two week stay at the Pergola Hotel. The Hotel is situated in a very traditional area of Malta. The room we had was very nice with good quality fittings and two bathrooms. Any repairs that needed doing were soon fixed. The only disapointment was having a small balcony which was very long but narrow and if more people in the room would make the space very restricted. The staff at the hotel were always very pleasant and helpfull and would call and check everything was alright. The hotel has three swimming pools although none of them are very big. There are two restaurants on site and both provide good value meals. There is a nice sandy beach at the bottom of the hill: if you don't want to walk there are frequent cheap buses. Outside of the Hotel there are plenty of places to choose from to eat and drink. On the island itself there are many places to visit and be sure to experiance the malta buses. We were well pleased with our holiday in Malta and I'm sure we will return.
we ran away!

This is going to be a very brief review - it will take probably the exact time to read as we actually stayed there!
This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel and advertises 4 restaurants, 3 pools etc etc. Well the pools are tiny, only 2 of the restaurants were open (at the weekend) one in the week . Be aware that half of the hotel is given over to RCI timeshare and as such the studio rooms are treated as apartments.
When the concierge told us where our room was ( most 4 star hotels show you to your room!) off we went - up a very small creaky lift and then onto our floor. Down the corridor to a room that reminded me of a dungeon - the window (if that is what you can call it) looked down a ventialtion shaft and all the plumbing for the other rooms ran down the walls - so in effect everytime water moved anywhere it came past our window - there was little light as the window was not actually external but internal to the hotel workings.
There were no other rooms available - we fled.
Just Wow

I have just returned from a month of holidays around Europe and the few days I spent in Malta are mostly to my heart.
I stayed at the Pergola Hotel. Wonderful hotel full of nice people ready to help and greet you no matter what time it is. Breakfast was very lovely and the dinner was not the usual hotel crap, but nicely served and a lot of variety which included chicken, meat, pies, pasta, salads. On one day there was even the maltese rabbit stew for those who wished to try.
The room was very nice, cleaned everyday. The cleaners were very very kind.
The Spa ... no comment ... Perfect. My girlfriend says thank you for the Spa chocolate message.
Malta is very nice and quiet. Only Julians is a bit loud and modern, so if you look for nightclubs make sure you go there. The beaches were nice, but very small.
I love to go back to Malta next year. Surely it will be at the Pergola !

Hotel okay but we had no balcony (despite the website saying all rooms do). Only one bar was open and only one restaurant. That's not a problem as there are loads in the town (lost income for the hotel!) but a tad annoying.
The pools are small; and on busy days too few sunbeds prompt the 'towel-on-the-sunbed-early' brigade out.
Breakfasts great and enough food to mean you can skip lunch.
It's clean enough, staff friendly, price fine.
The managers seem to be more concerned with its sister hotel the Solana...
a night to remember

My girl friend planned a surprise overnight stay for my birthday. She took me at the Pergola Hotel...I like the Hotel in general. Cool! And the service? Impeccable! we went at 3 in the morning and the person in the reception greeted us with a smile (in 3 AM). We were given a room, so cosy, a free bottle of wine, coffee and some fruit. I slept a peaceful night. The day after I spoke to the day Manager, who was really helpful, and I honestly want to thank him for the service they offer. i forget his name, a male in his early twenties, I reckon he was so nice and polite. We spent the day near the pool, swimming and having a drink at the pool bar, situated in a cave...fabulous idea...anyway...thanks Pergola staff for making my birthday a day to remember!
Nice Break

We just stayed at the Pergola Hotel for a weekend break and it was a very wonderful stay. Food at the Hotel was also very good. The rooms was also very nice. Very quit hotel with wonderful views. An exellent stay. Very friendly staff that will help you all the time.
Needs to do better to warrant its 4* rating.

We had booked a 1 bed apartment at the Pergola but on arrival we found ourselves double booked (it was obvious throughout the week that this wasn't an isolated incident) and shunted off to a 'sister' hotel called the Solana at about 1am. We were assured this was a more modern hotel with better facilities. We were given a single, very noisy, grubby room with 4 put-up beds - one of which was broken, flat lumpy pillows, mouldy bathroom and threadbare towels. (I have photos). We protested immediately but were met with polite unhelpfulness and told to wait until the morning. After making another fuss in the morning we were shown a more suitable refurbished room at the Solana with a double bed and sofa bed and offered the option of half board in compensation. This would have been nice if the food hadn't been so appalling. We reverted to our original plan of self-catering. Catering facilities were OK. Half way through our holiday we were inconvenienced again and moved from the Solana to the one bed apartment at the Pergola. The Pergola hotel apartment we were given was in serious need of refurbishment, although the kitchen facitlies were good. The sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable for one of my sons to sleep on. The Pergola must have had the same chef as the Solana as the food was equally as awful. Staff were very polite but had the limitations of the hotel to deal with. The hotel is a rabbit warren of corridors, stairs and lifts. The location of the hotel was good for the beach and small town and restaurants. I would recommend Malta as a holiday destination as the people are so warm and friendly . If you are booked in at the Pergola, don't expect 4* facilities, if you lower your expectations to 2-3* you won't be disappointed.
Stay within comfort zone

Had a lovely time at the Pergola despite a slightly difficult start. My boyfriend and I booked through Choice Holidays which doesn't specify but strongly implies you are booking a room at the Solana Hotel. We were therefore initially disappointed to be dropped off at the sister hotel, the Pergola as the reviews for Solana are slightly better.
When it was explained that you could be booked in at either and we saw the place in the light of day, we decided that it was in fact quite nice and even when offered a suite later in the week, we decided not to move. The enclosed pool are is a great suntrap and a very quite comfortable place to read a book and chill out. Also our room was on reception level which made it quite easy to find as it is a bit of a warren as others have described.
Breakfast buffet is generous with the local bread and swiss cheese a highlight. Slightly less satisfactory was the practice of billing you for the smallest things - approx £8 to even have the remote control for your TV and over a £1 for a bus map we didn't even ask for. I do think that was cheeky. Having said that Meliha is a great location and the hotel great value, very friendly and relaxing . Spa experience was good too - would really recommnend for a sunshine break.
