Le Meridien

i spent 8 nights at Le Meridien St. Julians with my gf.
We had a deluxe sea view room for 150 euros/night.
Negative things:
The hotel is new, it opened in march, and this is the first period they have lot of guests, so they still have some service problems.
We used the bathrobe the first night, they took it away in the morning, and it never came back.
The elevators (4) didn't work that well, sometimes we had to wait 10 minutes to reach the lobby.
The roof top swimming pool is kinda little, and since there were a lot of kids was almost impossible to have a swim.
The service in the roof top was not good.
Our deluxe sea view room was a partial sea view.
That said, the hotel have some positive things also:
The property is awesome.
Our room was relly nice and spacious. The shower is great. The bed is a real King, air con was working perfectly.
The 'La Villa' Brasserie is a really good restaurant. We had 2 dinners there and both of them were perfect.
The position is good. Quiet and central. Walking distance from Spinola Bay (restaurants) and Paceville (nightlife).
The indor pool is very very nice, relaxing, with less ppl than the roof one.
The gym is a real gym. With everything u need.
The spa offer nice massages, the attendants are well trained and professional.
Not so far to be a real 5 stars hotel.
Magnificient view
by mauro_pd about Le Meridien St. Julian
All what you could expect from Le Meridien, with the plus of a magnificient view over the bay in St. Julian (but conveniently placed away from "the hell" nightlife).
Only one remark: bring your jacket when you plan to sit at the bar, the airco is freezing !!! Free wifi connection in the lobby.
Great value

It was with trepidation that my wife and i embarked on a seven night stay at the Meridien St Julians Malta after reading some of the reviews on this site.
The hotel itself is new, and very contemporary, with clean and open public spaces, essentially, conducive to a relaxing atmostphere.
Upon arival we were upgraded to a Junior suite. The room was clean and spacious, with great views and serviced daily to a 5 star expectation. The spa was good. The pool on the 12th floor was small but the views, and situation of the pool make up the shortfall in relation to size.
The staff were young, frendly, good looking, and keen to help, nothing was to much trouble. Special praise should go to the chaps at the concierge who in comparison to their counterparts on Park Lane, Park Avenue etc went beyond the call of duty,, in terms of service and the lack of prentetiousness.
The downside to staying at the Meridian are several, however in terms of the price they are peripheral. The lifts are a night mare. Room servise is so slow its quiker to send out for a pizzza to neighbouring Sicily. The staff are quick to present the breakfast bill before the first cup of coffee arives, also their is a problem with ordering toast in the plural.
All in all, our stay was excellent, the hotel is new its has a few teething problems, which is to be expected, but in terms of the price its great value, and in terms of a comparsion with many 5 star hotels in Europe and esppecially italy there is no comparison in realtion to service and price.
Very disappointing

What a disappointment!
Let's start with the positives: a lovely large suite; decent food at the top-of-the-range Italian restaurant; a nice coffee shop; a pleasant indoor spa; a helpful concierge desk; the friendly and welcoming Exec lounge.
But where to start with the things that they get wrong? A lengthy wait on arrival, as they'd managed to downgrade us (!) from a junior suite to a (cheaper) executive room. That's not what any guest should expect, never mind a 100-night-a-year Platinum guest, and we did eventually get upgraded back to an exec suite (but with a car park view, and smoking).
Leisure facilities were inadequate. The indoor pool was closed for most of our stay; the rooftop pool is tiny. Astonishingly, the heavy parasol next to our sun lounger took off in the wind and flew over the side of the hotel; fortunately no-one was hurt and the staff did then remove the other shades, but only after commenting that "the same thing happened last week".
Food in the bar near the pool is staggeringly expensive and not especially good. Check out took 45 minutes as they had problems with their system. The maitre d' in the Italian restaurant was so curt as to be downright rude (perhaps he didn't like a 6-year-old dining in his good, but over-rated establishment?).
Feels like Le Meridien need to take a very good look indeed at the way that this property is being run.
Wonderful experience

From the moment we arrived, we were met with friendly, helpful and efficient service. We had a problem the first night due to being located in a room directly under the rooftop pool which made a noise throughout the night and meant little sleep, however as soon as we mentioned this, we were moved to a sea view room with fantastic views across the bay. The rooftop pool and area were lovely, the food in that particular bar wasn't fantastic for a hotel of this magnitude, but the service was good. The other bar on the same floor as reception was outstanding with excellent food and a fantastic range of drinks. The main restaurant on the bottom floor was out of this world - quite literally the best meal i have ever had. The indoor pool was excellent and the breakfast (we only booked Bed and Breakfast as we didn't want to be tied to the hotel for all meals and wanted to explore Malta) was outstanding. Excellent coffee and a wide range of very tasty foods. The concierge service was excellent and all in all, the staff were polite and very helpful. I would definately recommend this hotel - I have fallen in love with the Islands of Malta and will definately return a number of times and would definately stay in this hotel again.
great location

just got back from meridien. although there was a problem with cleanliness with our room when we first arrived it was immediatlely dealt with and we were moved to another, better room within 5 minutes of reporting the fault. the rooms are very spacious and well furnished, but the seperate toilet is very cramped. the location of the hotel is ideal and is central to both st julians and sliema in a quiet more picturesque location than a lot of other 5 star hotels in the area(which we visited while on holiday, for our future reference). the pool is very small for the size of the hotel. but balluta bay is only 30 second walk where you can swim in a much larger space than any hotel pool can ever offer. overall the hotel is excellent but do excpect some building grime that doesnt as of yet seem to have been cleaned off properly( like tile grout dust,) which does give the rooms a dirty look at first glance. we would deffinatly stay again at this hotel.
More Like Fawlty Towers

I have never been so dissappointed with a five star hotel infact we were booked for 11 nights and only stayed 4 nights. The only plus side to the hotel was the size of the rooms. We booked inter connecting rooms for us and our children. The first night we arrived late and ordered room service that took an hour and a half to arrive, it took about the same amount of time to open the inter connecting doors and several phone calls. The childrens room smelt of damp and had a infestation of ants. The hotel manager managed to move us to exceptable rooms but on the third night my seven year olds bed broke and it took a fair bit of shouting to get it replaced in a reseasonable time scale. The pool on the roof was not adequate for a family holiday and after much frustation we moved to the Radisson at Golden Bay which was a far superior hotel.
Not bad!

The hotel has a perfect location and it's a beautiful property. The bus stop is right in front of the entrance, and many nice bars and restaurants are walking distance. The Villa restaurant was great: good service and good food.
We only had a problem with the shower, we never had the slippers that we had requested and the glasses in the minibar were dirty and never washed...
fantastic service
by TripAdvisor Member unclechuckle
we took 60 customers from all over europe & japan here in mid september and although I understand and appreciate some people's comments about the place being unfinished/dirty and not quite what it should be, I can only give this place 10/10. Even if the staff aren't quite up to speed in certain areas (although nopthing major at all) they certainly give more than 100% effort. they looked after us brilliantly. sometimes a bit slow (but we encountered that all over Malta), but other than that fantastic. pool on level 2 is superb, food great, rooms good size etc etc. will definitely be heading back.
Excellent choice of hotel
by TripAdvisor Member UK1000
We stayed here for seven nights, which co-incided with our 1st wedding anniversary, and were very pleased with our choice of hotel. Having looked at Trip Advisor before we booked, my choice was between this hotel and the Hotel Juliani. We chose this hotel as the balconies appeared bigger and the location was between St Julians and Sliema.
This hotel is well located - bus stop just outside for our trips around the island, plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and a lovely view of the bay.
We were very pleased with the size of the room given (and size of bed) and the separate bath and shower were also good. We paid for a sea view and were pleased with the room we were given. The balcony was big, but as we were out and about a lot we did not use it as much as we thought. The lifts are frustrating (as someone else reported) as even though there are 4 of them they do not always respond effectively! The Lotus Spa was lovely - pool and jacuzzi (and gym - although didn't use it). We both had treatments at the spa which were good.
The Villa restaurant is excellent, and the range of restaurants nearby is very good.
I would definitely recommend this hotel as we had a very enjoyable stay.
