Change for the better
by joanj
Since my last visit 10 years ago, I have seen vast improvement in the promenade area of Sliema.
Here you can see they have built a lovely garden and rest area.(unfortunately it was between seasons, so the summer bedding plants had been taken up, and soil prepared for the winter/spring planting.) Before it was just rocks and little else. At either end of these gardens on the foreshore are well equipped and very safe play areas for the little people. We saw many children enjoying the play area, some Mothers even taking a picnic lunch for the little ones.
The gardens are well designed, with seating and shady areas. Toilets are provided too.
At night the gardens take on a different hue. I did try to take some photographs but it did not do the garden area justice. One picture I did take that is on my pages, is the one of the fountain lit up.
swimming...

Beach-bumming and swimming in Sliema is not exactly that easy, nice or scenic. There are no sand beaches and of the two waterfront areas, only one is suitable – the other being a harbor. So if you want to go to the “beach”, head to Tower Road and its rocky shore.
In front of the Preluna Hotel you can find large smooth sandstone rocks which sometimes slabs have metal handrails so that you can access the water. Pay attention to of the strong currents, though. If you’re not a good swimmer there’s a number of seafront lidos, though they do look a bit on the sad side. Swimsuit and a good sun-screen as there realy is no shade.

Tallira shops are very popular in whole Malta becauyse everything they sell, sell it for 1 Maltese lira (pound). BTW 1 LM= 2.33- 2.4 euros.
In Tallira shops, for 1 pound you can buy:
- 4 0.5 liters cans of German beer
- large Malta flag
- 2-4 pieces of different food
- 1-2 pieces of different souvenirs...
Popular Place to swim but u have to know about it
by Elly01
This place is situated at the tip of Tigne' which is a small place which forms part of Sliema. This beach is called Tini beach and is very popular amongst foreigners. This is the beach of NSTS therefore one has to present his or her card to enter. Here you can play vollyeball in the sand pit and make use of many sport facilities.
Buses

Sliema is well placed for good bus links across the island: Regular service runs to Valletta - tickets just 20cents. Other places of interest on Malta can be reached without having to go to Valletta first. by using the new VisitMalta bus service. There are two routes, the North and the South route. The North Route (Bus 505) visits Mdina, Rabat, Mosta, Naxxar, Buskett and Dingli Cliffs. The South Route (Bus 506) visits San Anton Gardens, Siggiewi, Hagar Qim & Mnajdra, Wied iz-Zurrieq, Marsaxlokk, Kalkara & Cottonera.
Ticket prices for the tourist bus are dearer at 2 lira for the day (can pay on bus) but the well worked out timetable means you can plan a good day out visiting several attractions in one day - more easily than the scheduled bus service. Plus the ticket can be used on either route - so you can mix and match - as well as any scheduled bus service up to 23:00hrs.
