Does the Preluna Hotel complex have self catering apartments? We are looking at visiting Malta in April 2007. Thank you. Mary

Not sure if Perluna does but there are others across the island I could recommend. Are you dead set on staying in Sliema?

i stayed at the preluna in may - nice hotel but no self catering, however you can get b&b, breakfast is great & its as cheap to eat out as it is to cook in malta.
personally i prefer buggiba to sliema & the primera hotel is very central, cheap, clean & basic - if a bit tatty. you can get b&b here through maltadirect.com who i would also reccommend!
Travel Tips for Sliema
Walking on Sliema Promenade (Front)
Walking on the Sliema Promenade (Front as the locals call it) is a custom especially when the summer months are approaching it seems that everyone gets their feet on the front to walk up and down in order to keep fit! It's a very pleasant and nice walk as it is along the seaside and commences from St.Julians and ends in Gzira which is a nice stretch of good continous walking. One drawback is that you meet so many people that its hard to walk at times especially those people who like jogging !

Diving
Looking from our balcony we see divers either practicing, or going out in the boats for dives.
I have listed this under Sliema as that is where the photo was taken, but there is diving all over Malta, Gozo, Comino
There are 12 sites listed for Malta 13 in Gozo and 3 in Comino & Cominotto (v. tiny island)
I do not dive myself, but thought this information would be useful to divers.
Black Pearl !
Well this ship is called the Black Pearl - you can find it at the end of Gzira beginning of Ta' Xbiex. Today it is there just as decoration however one can go on board and you can have a drink and also dine. The boat is really nice inside and one can also eat on deck too !
Take the Hop-on & Hop-off-bus from Sliema
The hop-on & hop-off-buses of Malta will all start and end in Sliema and they are a great way to explore the island and get out of the bus for some time at the most interesting places.
These Buses are going each 30 min and for the full day you pay 15 euros. I took the very first bus, spent some time in the park of the president, 1 hour in the Aviation-museum,30 min in Mosta and 1,5 hour in Mdina, that was the maximum I could do in a single day. All the other places of the tour I stayed onboard and got back by the last bus in the evening.
The seats on the lower floor of the bus are simply too hot, the ones on top are great, but sometimes you are hit by branches of trees and you need a cap that will not fly away in the winds.
