More about Plevna Hotel

Great price, great breakfast & great location

by englishtourist about Plevna Hotel - Sliema

Good location, turn one way out of the hotel and you are on the sliema sea front (1 min walk). Turn the other way and walk a few mins through the shopping area to the harbour for valletta ferry and buses. Jump on a bus and you can be almost anywhere on the island within 1/2 hr.

This is not a luxury hotel so don't expect the fluffiest towels in the world and immaculate decor, but at £18 per night for a double room, ensuite bathroom & small balcony with sea view to the side, this is a good option.(breakfast included booked via venere.com)

Room size was okay, not vast but had tea/coffee facilities, wardrobe, drawers etc. Room and bathroom very clean. Decor perhaps needs touching up. Some noise from building work near by in morning, but think you'd be lucky to escape that anywhere in a Malta resort at the minute, but it wasn't really a problem.

Hotel facilities - friendly bar, nightly low key entertainment ie. movie night, quiz night, live music. Wi-Fi area, TV lounges etc. roof top sun terrace. (pool complex not open in winter)

Food - Breakfast buffet help yourself from a good choice of fruit, cereal, pastries, rolls, yoghurt, eggs, bacon, sausages, beans etc etc. they fry eggs to order if required. I have to say this is one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had in europe.

Would definatley stay here again...

A quiet place to stay

by Kushelkitten about Hotel Plevna

They say it's a 4.5 star hotel. Normally i tend to debate this but looking back I would say 4. I did have the problem with my room being on without heat. After being in stuck in a downpour in Valletta and having my shoes full of water ...dont bother with the ferry in a rain storm...there was no way to dry anything out. While talking to the nuns who were staying at the hotel on pilgramage they informed me thier rooms had heaters.

All in all its nice and cozy. The dinning room is quite small. I had to miss breakfast on more than one occasion because there was no place at all to sit. Dinner is the same.

The pool area across the street is quite nice with a lovely sea water pool and view of the ocean. Its located on a quiet side street of Sliema. No noise and charming view of the narrow road its on down to the harbour.

Hi I haven't stayed here but I have a friend that has and he said it was ok cleen and very central in Sliema I think it is 3 star and he said that's about right. It is only a couple of minets walk to the front at Sliema there is loads of pubs and cafe's there is a row of bus stops and lots of boat trips.
Sliema is a wonderful place I often stay there.
If you want to ask me anything please just email me Ian

Hi
September is pretty much the end of summer in Malta but it can still be very hot although not as hot as in July and August. We sometimes get our first storms in September and this brings the temperature down a little. Regarding clothes I suggest you bring swimwear and summer clothing but bring a light waterproof jacket and a couple of long-sleeved tops just in case it rains. It will not be cold at that time of year.
Hope this was helpful.

Travel Tips for Sliema

Harbour Cruises

by steventilly

There are a few companies offering Harbour Cruises and I’m sure they are all pretty good. We went with Captain Morgan and it was hard to fault the tour, though I have seen (while walking) that some other companies go a bit further into some of the creeks than Morgan’s did on our cruise. Whether there’s anything to be gained from that I don’t really know.
The cruises all depart from roughly the same part of Sliema harbour front, up towards the Valletta ferry landing, and the front is lined with the kiosks of the companies, and their reps try constantly to get you to go on a cruise. It can be a bit wearing at times, as you can be asked 5 or 6 times every time you walk up The Strand – and we walked it a lot of times in the two weeks we were there!

The family Monument

by Elly01

If you pass this monument then you are the right way to the Sliema Shopping Centre so follow the promenade either from Gzira or from St Julian's direction and you will find the monument on the side of the sea.

Ferry

by steventilly

The ferry runs from Sliema to Valletta during the hours of about 7am to 6pm (this is only approximate!) and it runs about every half hour or so. The fare is 35 cents which is pretty good and you're in Valletta in under 15 minutes. It's a lovely way to get between the two places, better than going there by bus I'd say, and you arrive kind of behind and underneath the Carmelite Church and the Anglican Cathedral, and not too far from the Manoel theatre.
