As it called in full name the Le Meridien Phoenicia Hotel is central located by the bus station and this one looks more like a business style hotel then holiday spot.
The Meridien is renowned for being the first five star hotel in Malta - by all accounts it is no longer the best - others, such as the San Gorg in St Julians Bay are far better appointed and have far better conference facilities - although for proximity to Valletta and the airport at Luqa the Meridien is the best in its class. It has been a hotel since after the Second World War and whilst it might have more character than its modern counterparts most people head to Paceville and St Julians Bay instead.
Efficient and friendly staff, excellent breakfast (and afternoon tea), recently refurbished, nice quiet gardens and a great location
Well worth the money.
If you are looking for bed-beach-bar then this is not the one for you - but if you have come to the island for culture then - walk out the front door - turn left and in 3 minutes you are right the heart of Valletta.
If you don't have a car - then the central bus terminal, with direct links to all points on the island is even closer.
