Jazz Hotel: best deal in the city centre, Chisinau

fairly nice hotel in great location but even a Hong Kong hotelier would blush at the size of the room they gave me with a single bed? Not a terribly good value for the money but wi-fi and a mediocre breakfast were included.

Service was quite good for Moldova.

After one night there I rented a fabulous apartment for less that was off-centre in the embassy district for 4 nights.

Hotel Chisinau: former soviet intourist

There are several hotels downtown Chisinau, most of them seeming up-market (e.g. Cosmos, Flowers, etc.).

Hotel Chisinau is a budget one, very centrally located. In fact, the former soviet intourist, from reception to the bed sheets and to the employees, so don’t expect a warm welcome. Don’t expect breakfast. Don’t expect free luggage room for the day. Don’t expect the receptionist to enough change to give you, unless you’re paying in US at a rip-off rate.
On the other hand, expect some basic small rooms with short beds (I guess soviets were rather short) with fridge and TV, a barely functioning bathroom but with hot water! And expect old-fashioned flavours – 2 fat policemen sitting at a desk near the reception, and an old woman on every floor to make sure you find your room every time.

Hotel Nistru: downtown Soroca

A small quiet hotel downtown Soroca, near the Stefan cel Mare square, hidden from the main road in a secondary square. Only 2-5 rooms, newly refurnished, hot water 300 lei per night/double, no breakfast (60 Romanian lei, less than 20 EUR for 2).

If you do not manage to find places here, there is another small hotel opposite this one, and there are many other guesthouses nearby, so there’s no problem finding accommodation.

THERE ARE SEVERAL PIZZA PLACES, RESTAURANTS, SUPERMARKETS, A NIGHT CLUB IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. ALSO A LOCAL MARKET WHERE YOU CAN BUY FRESH FRUITS, VEGETABLES, MEAT AND DIARY PRODUCTS.

WE WILL GET YOU ORIENTED IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, ADVISE ON YOUR ITINERARY, BOOK TOURS, CAR WITH/WITHOUT DRIVER, BOOK YOUR ACCOMMODATION IN TIRASPOL TOWN OR A STAY AT THE COUNTRYSIDE, CALL THE TRAIN/BUS STATION, RECOMMEND GOOD PLACES TO EAT, TO SHOP IN CHISINAU, PICK UP AND TRANSFER, GUIDE YOU TO THE MAIN SITES OF MOLDOVA . I stayed here ,an apartment block.
You pay ,get your keys and you got a place to stay,nice and comfortable inside with fridge and cooking facilities plus a shower.

I think it can be a problem to find something suitable in Moldova. Chisinau, the capital, has the more to offer. On the other hand, most of the hotels are expensive and the quality is not as good as it should be for the price. In bigger cities you will probably find something to stay. It may be more difficult outside but if you stay shorther than three day you may always sleep under a tent. After three days registration is necessary! When you sleepn at a hotel it will make a registration automatically for you.

Hotel National: A Soviet leftover

This place is a bit of a typical drab old Soviet hotel. It is clean for the most part and it has all the services you might need during your stay in Moldova. The front desk staff is more than willing to help you arange a a car for a weekend tour of the country side or just make local recomendations. The only thing I did not like was that my room was a bit cold due to the heater not working.

Flowers: An Oasis in the midst of the concrete desert

This is a top end hotel in Chisinau. But after reading the descriptions of the other accomodation alternatives in the city in Lonely Planet, we could not imagine staying anywhere but here. We had a few communication problems with the staff that led to a major inconvenience (see intro page for story), but the management compensated us fairly.

Large, airy rooms. Free internet access downstairs in the lobby (although the start page was a porn site). The outside is unique and inviting - really stands out from all the depressing concrete buildings that surround it.

There were blood-thirsty mosquitoes here though, which managed to bite me through the blanket. Still, I guess this the place to stay. The staff told us they mostly get business guests. But that is no surprise considering we didn't see any tourists anywhere during our whole stay.

privat accomodation

I stayed at a privat kind of accomodation. It is run by a girl and I stumbled across it surfing the net. She rents out part of her appartment. When I was there I was alone in the appartment, it had kitchen, bathroom, washing machine, TV. Only drawback was that it was a little from the centre. But the buses run frequently and the taxi rides are cheap as well. Check out. www.marisha.net. The price was quite good, as normal hotels tend to be expensive.
