This is a NOT recommendation. As I recall this hotel was built for the 1984 Olympics but the construction must have been very shoddy. When I stayed there, the concrete wall and balcony had many cracks. It looked like one good earthquake and the whole thing would fall down.

And the TV reception was very poor. Definitely wouldn't recommend staying there. I rceall another hotel, Cosmo was nearby and looked like it was in a lot better shape.

National Hotel

The hotel was built in 1978. Prices start at about 45$. The hotel has a restaurant, three bars and a casino. Rooms have a bathroom and hot water all day and night. There is a nice square in front of the building with the Academy of Science opposite it.

National - is it always 'national'

Another big hotel buided in USSR period.
And it seems like they still have clients! :)

Unique Quality: CASINO!
Every big hotel in Chisinau have it's own CASINO. That become a rule I guess...
Actually people from other countries are coming to Chisinau just to go to a Casino. Probably some day Chisinau will become something like Las Vegas or Monte Carlo?
