Water

water in chisinau is not good. even in the hotels you have to look for extern mineral water. I´ve brushed my teeth only one time - in a three-star-hotel(!) - this was my only contact with water from the pipe. and all the night I could not sleep, because I´d to go to toilett every hour. but generally I do not have problem with light dirty water... better buy mineral in the supermarket!
General Money Tips

The most widely accepted currency (except for the local currency, Lei) is the US Dollar. We recommend that you carry some US Dollars cash. The Dollar notes should be in perfect condition or they may not be accepted. It is not always easy to exchange Sterling for the local currency. Credit cards are not widely accepted in Moldova, though Lei can be obtained from a number of ATM machines in Chisinau.
Cricova
by Mr_Furious
Cricova is a village some 15km away from Chisinau. The village is world famous in Moldova for its excellent wine which bottled and preserved underground. There is a very large network of tunnels. A visit to Cricova is something not to be missed on a visit to Moldova! You can get to Cricova by local bus but the only way to get in the cellars is on an organized tour. I was lucky enough to get in for free, but then I have connections :-)

Money Wise
In the center of the city there are many officially licensed
places where you can change money. Also in some of the bigger shops
there are exchange facilities. The exchange rates don't differ very
much. (So, don't follow obscure offers!.) The best rates are of course,
where there are the least tourists. Ask the people where you stay,
which place they would recommend. Maybe they will escort you to places
where tourist usually won't go (and perhaps even should not go
unaccompanied!). But this is where the best exchange rates are. But
nevertheless, be careful, where you go!
Most currency converters on the net don't feature Moldovan Lei, but here e.g. you can find one: http://md.orientation.com/en/currency/home.html

http://www.lataifas.com/restoran/eng/cuisine.php You will be impressed with the restaurant’s coziness: its interior is a stylized Moldovan peasant’s house, in which guests are always welcome.
There are three halls at La Taifas. Those who would like to enjoy everything at once: cuisine, atmosphere of a Moldovan house, and a company of friends – choose the main hall. A stove, in which bread with crisp crust is baked right in front of you, makes this hall especially cozy. The second hall is designed for banquets in a small company. It is good for experiencing rowdy and merry Moldovan dinner. The third hall has an attractive romantic atmosphere and evening mystique – here you and your partner can find seclusion and have a romantic dinner.
