The symbol of MOLDOVA!
by Lion_Beat
Stefan Cel Mare is the most loved Moldavian Ruler ever...
The most glorious time of Moldova was in his time (1457 - 1504).
In our days he is a live legend, and sometimes people even pray for him to come back to see what's happening to Moldova and to punish the actual rulers, to re-establish peace and prosperity.
In his time he defended the country from various invaders: Tatars, Turks, Polish, Hungarians. He NEVER lost a singe war, and after each battle he won he would build a monastery or a church.
Even the mighty Ottoman Empire in it's most powerfull years had to pay tribute to Moldova after loosing the war. The Pope of Rome called Stefan The Great the most faithul defender of Europe and Christianity. He stopped for more then 50 years the massive invasion of turks into Europe. Stefan Cel Mare said: "Moldova is not mine, and is not yours, it is for children of our childrens!"
The actual monument I was going to tell you about is located in the heart of Chisinau and was build in 1924 by moldavian architecture A.Plamadeala. The base of the monumet is made out of simple stone from Cosauti region (like the fortresses he build). From 1924 (the time when Moldova became part of Great Romania again and was eliberated from Russian ocupation) to 1944 (when Soviet Union captured Moldova and moved back the monument of Stefan Cel Mare), to 1989 (when the monument became the place from where the independence movement has started) to ourdays (when so-called communists regained power) - the monumet and Stefan is looking at it all, AND ONE DAY HE WILL COME BACK!

Photographic processing facilities are located in shops on the main street of Chisinau (Stefan cel Mare and Puskin), as well as in a variety of stores such as UNIC, Gemini, Green Hills, and Fidesco. There are also several Kodak and Fuji film processing shops that offer one-hour service. The quality is fine but the price is high. It is important for Westerners to know that the negatives are developed first, and that unless the customer requests otherwise and pays for the development of the entire roll ahead, he/she is expected to come back to look through the negatives and decide which frames to have developed. Batteries, film, and camera supplies are equally available at some stores and at Gemini and UNIC. There are several dry cleaners in Chisinau but the quality is not always reliable, due to a shortage in dry cleaning chemicals and most westerners therefore prefer to carry clothing, needing cleaning, out of Chisinau when trips are made to the west. It is recommended that as many non dry-clean-only clothes are brought to Chisinau as possible.
Church of St. Pantelimon
by ZiOOlek
Church of St. Pantelimon (in Moldovian: Biserica Sf. Pantelimon) is located on the corner of Veronica Micle and Eminescu street. It was designed by A. Bernardazzi and built in 1891. It is a small but cosy church. The is a shop inside and there was a pope inside and I asked if it is possible to make a photo. Before making a decision he asked where am I from. Maybe he has a lost of countries from wich people cannot kame photos inside...:)
High quality of construction works and real development became possible only due to the outstanding architect A. Bernardazzi. He had designed and had built the most significant edifices that form the Chisnau unique look. Benardazzi was one of those who appreciated the decorative characteristics of the natural white coquina quarried in the Chisinau outskirts. Before that all the constructions were plastered, and only in the end of the 19th century came into use the neat stone-work with the redbrick insertions. This kind of fronts design became the local peculiarity. At the same time, municipal improvement was carried out very slowly. Paving was started only in 1862.

The Alaverdi Restaurant
by Fen about The Alaverdi
I had fun experiencing something special, tasting an unforgettable aroma of famous Georgian wines and refined dishes, gifted to the world by sunny Georgia, your choice is definitely the restaurant "Alaverdy" .
Every detail - waiters, dressed in national Georgian clothes, pictures and daggers on the restaurant walls, heady smells of wines and specific dishes-expresses a magic spirit of affable Georgia feeling in the restaurant air. I had a local Georgian dish which was really nice, although I can't remember what it was.
Yes I know, how very useful....! *grin*
