  • Christian Youth Hostel Eben Haezer
appx. 20 guilders which includes breakfast

My friend and I were in Paris before Amsterdam when someone asked if we had made reservations for Amsterdam yet. Of course we hadn't. We were just flying by the seat of our pants. Well, apparently, the same time we were supposed to be in Amsterdam, they were hosting the soccer matches. We were told that pretty much everything was booked and I think his exact words were 'Good Luck'. Well we got on the phone immediately and Eben Haezer was the first place I called thinking that due to the restrictions that a Christian hostel had, most people wouldn't want to stay there in the midst of party time. I was right. Luckily they had rooms available. The hostel was very clean and friendly. I would recommend staying there if you are not the partying type. You're virtually guarenteed a safe quiet place to stay.

The curfew is 1am and there is an age limit of 36.

This is a view of one of the canals from 'aboard' the Amstel Botel..a very fun place to stay especially if you want to have a really up close look at all the boats in the area. Tour boats are pretty much a regular part of the scenery here so it is good to just enjoy the festive nature that seems to prevail!

Being right on one of the canals provides a great view of the city across the water and then all the tourists in the boats that are constantly on the move throughout the day and night is fun for people watching. Also the short walking distance to many shops with quick access to the public transportation is a real plus.

To live in Amsterdam in a good hotel is very expensive and our group had a chance to acquaint with one more place in Netherlands – Delft. What a pity that I got to know it is very famous for it’s porcelain lately in Kiev! We lived in good apartments in the Dish hotel ***.

My own house of course. Nice appartment at the Canal. Looking out on the houseboats. Near a park, in the center, near all kinds of nice places. 10 minutes from the Vondelpark and the Leidseplein.
Of course there are millions of hotels. Cheap and very expensive. If you have some money to spend, stay at the Americain Hotel. This hotel is build in Art Deco style and it's next to the Leidseplein near all the cafe's and cinema's. Where the action is.
Another nice hotel is Krasnapolsky at The Dam Square. In the center of the city. In the middle of the great shopping area. Als next to the Red Light District, near the coffeeshops and porn shops.
For staying in Hotel L'europe you have to bring a lot of cash with you. I'd better not tell you about the most beautiful and expensive hotel called The Amstel Hotel. Don't worry Amsterdm has lots of cheap low budget and youth hotels. For example Budget Hotel Arena (als nice cafe and great dancing).
